Just started CUT is this the norm

I have been saving coins and it seems auctions is the only way to get actual players I know from pack in the 2000s is  auction not buy it now. Basically I have 300k went after a card and of course everyone is bidding at the end, and it wouldn’t let me bid. Beyond annoyed. First time playing this kind of game mode, is this the norm. Just want to know, because if so I might just stay away.  Video proof as well.
