Starting RB Permanently Benched During Game

Summary:

There appears to be a serious substitution bug affecting the starting running back. During games, my starting RB gets subbed out, and no matter what I do, I can’t get them back on the field. Instead, the backups (HB2, HB3, or the FB) become the active running back.

I’ve tried:

  • Reordering the depth chart.
  • Using mass substitutions to put the starter back in.
  • Mass substituting the backup in first, then switching back to the starters.

None of these work. The AI only removes the starting RB while every other position continues to rotate normally.

This is a major gameplay issue because it can prevent players from completing milestones or breaking records. For example, if you’re close to breaking the all-time rushing record and your starting RB is permanently subbed out, you lose the opportunity to finish the achievement through no fault of your own.

Expected behavior: The starting RB should be able to return to the game based on the depth chart and substitution settings.

Actual behavior: Once the starting RB is subbed out, only the backup RBs or FB receive carries, and the starter cannot re-enter the game.

Is it a wear and tear issue? A player who bottoms out their wear and tear is likely to not play again in the game. I had to adjust those sliders a bit, increasing recoveries and decreasing W&T overall a bit in order to have my RB still able to play at the end of a season. Without it, he'd miss multiple games even at the top of the depth chart because, once the game started he'd get swapped out for fresher legs.

  • Nope. Got up by 21 in the second quarter on Michigan and the game took the starting RB out with 2 minutes left. Auto sub, mass sub, putting the backup as the starter and putting the starter as the backup. Nothing works- please fix.

Wear in tear is at 30% by the way. He had 90% stamina and no injuries.

  • This happened to me but differently. Whenever I put a DE as a RDT (Interior lineman in nickel and dime packages) , he never appears. It's ALWAYS a DT.

OK, I have found a fix, but i shouldn't have to do this. In your auto-sub section, reduce your fatigue all the way down sort of like they have the QB (1). I found that if you drop it down to 30 for sub out and 100 for sub in, he will stay in the game for the most part. I reduced it down to 10 and the started never came out, but he ended up having a season ending injury. Therefore, be sure to have your wear and tear settings to 60% or above so he doesn't get injured like i did. BUT AGAIN, I SHOULDNT HAVE TO DO THIS.
