this will fix game and you will be able to run it. Hope this helps y'all

I can confirm that darcrysd1974's solution works, at least for me on Win 8.1 x64.

Don't forget to put the dash (-) in front of the W

Did NOT work. When Iright click on the game in the Origin library, the dialogue box opens, but I am unable to perform this action. The Repair Game, Game Properties, and Uninstall options are there, but I cannot click on any of them. Getting very confused frustrated and p!ssed off.
In order to make the game work, right click on the game and click "Game Properties" then click "Disable Origin In game"
Same goes for Red Alert 2/Yuries Revenge. Sometimes it only happens with one or the other (Generals/Red Alert) or sometimes it's both. I had it happen only to Red Alert, but disabled it on both anyways.
If you right click on the game and the options are greyed out make sure that your game is closed and there are no background processes of it running in the background ( Ctrl + Alt + Del then look for the C&C generals logo) if the processes are running, end them and right click on the icon again.

close origin down and come out of it completely. If running windows 8 ctl alt delete and end task origin. Then go back in and the properties are no longer greyed out.

This really keeps baffling me, since it's actually in the big sticky "How to run older Command & Conquer titles on Windows 8.1" thread at the top of the forum.
