Re: C&C ultimate collection Red Alert 2 wont start

Thanks a lot! This solved my problems with Red Alert 2 and and I had the same problem with Generals which this also solved.  For anyone elso who reads this, in the top left corner of origin is the word "origin". click this to get a drop down menu, then click "application settings" about half way down, then click "origin in game" from the menu on the left, then uncheck the "enable origin in game" box.  This disables origin overlay, and the games run fine. thanks again!

Thank you so much for your help TeuphiLuv its works now on my window 8 everything work ... but after 15 min or 20 min . 

The game suddenly freez and i cant close the game . i force my laptop to shutdown to start the game again and after 15 min the same thing happen again .

Please do you have any idea what causing this problem , and what i should do .

Did you try reinstalling the game? Running as administrator? This has worked for me sometimes when programs dont work properly, If you can, try running compatability mode, try running with each different setting (windows 7, vista, 95,98 xp...), even if the computer thinks one setting will work better.  If this doesn't work,

Are you using windows 8 or 8.1?

Does that game freeze during a certain level, or just after a certain time?

Are you using a touch screen laptop or using mouse?

where can i find the in game overlay settings?

Right-click the game in the Origin games list, and choose "game properties".

i had to force close ra2 because it was open so it wouldn't let me turn it off so restart your pc and try again

If the option is greyed out, this means you tried to launch the game first, and due to the malfunction, Origin thinks it's still running. To fix that, either kill the game launcher process in the Task Manager, or just restart your computer.

Besides the Origin thing, there are a few other things you can do to help RA2 to run better:

• Tweaking certain compatibility modes can help a lot
• The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve the "black screen" issue for many people. Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.
• The CnCNet online play installer for RA2/YR comes with a bunch of automatic fixes. It should automatically take care of the "black screen" issue, and has a configuration tool that allows further tweaking of the game's settings. So even if you're not interested in online play, it's still useful to install.

Origin isn't a game server, just an application server. It is completely unrelated to online play.

There are no real 'official' servers for RA2 left; they've been put in the hands of the community ages ago, and are currently managed by XWIS. There's a new online community springing up at CnCNet, though, and you might find more players there. The online system they are building for RA2 is still in development, but I believe a link to the beta client is on the forum. At the moment they only support Yuri's Revenge, though, since there is apparently little community interest in playing RA2 without the expansion's added units.

For anyone seeing this now, the RA2 CnCNet client has of course been finished ages ago now, and can just be downloaded from cncnet.org.

Do note that, since Yuri's Revenge has more recent maintenance by Westwood and fixes a load of bugs that vanilla RA2 still has, the CnCNet team chose to build their vanilla RA2 online play on the Yuri's Revenge game engine. So you still need Yuri's Revenge's to play the standard game online on CnCNet, and some game behaviour in the RA2 mode might still act like Yuri's Revenge due to changes in the game engine between the two.

Uh, for RA2, I suggest you follow the link to the forum on that page (the large green "join the discussion!" button at the bottom). As I said, it's still in development at the moment, so you'll have to look through the forum a bit.

For the others (C&C1, RA1 and TS), you basically download the cncnet client program, put it somewhere on your disk, run it, and tell it where your C&C games are, and you should be ready to go.

For C&C Generals and the later games, you should check out the C&C: Online project, which replaces the official Gamespy servers which shut down a while back.

Try uninstall it... wont work either...

You tried what, exactly? If you mean you tried double-clicking the "The Ultimate Collection" icon that appeared in your games after buying/redeeming the TUC code, then, that's not Red Alert 2 but the pack's additional content... which is supposed to give you a file browser, so you can see that content, since they're files. Wallpapers and music and such.

I have done this process and still my launcher for red alert 2 will not work, yuri's revenge works fine but the original just takes me in circles I click it it opens up origin where you choose to play l, click that the launcher comes up. For the 2 games, yuri's revenge works fine originals huts goes right back to origin play window.. Any help would be appreciated I've tried numerous YouTube videos nothing seems to be working

I'm having exactly the same issue! Whenever I click on either game, it takes me right back to the origin screen. I've disabled the 'origin in-game', disable cloud saves, tried opening in various compatibility modes, changed all the settings. I just can't  get it to work.
