[PC] Chapter 2 Power Cell Disappeared

Hello everyone,

I bought not long ago Dead Space.

I started playing the game normally (installed on HDD), without nearly no performance issue. Game running smoothly, just a bit of stutter when loading / rendering large and new areas.

Yet, I am now going insane because I am stuck in chapter 2. I tried to restart the game twice, but the same bug occurred twice.

After removing the power cell from the wall in aforementioned chapter, enemies spawn. I leave the power cell on the ground, I eliminate the enemies, and when I return to look for the power cell, the power cell is nowhere to be found. I can say that it spawned for sure as I grabbed it with telekinesis, but for some reason it despawns. I have checked throughly the entire section of the map, forcing my screen gamma and brightness to blinding levels to make sure I was not missing anything. I searched for more than 15 minutes on my first playthrough, removing all items from the room, checking for possible clipping with ceiling, walls, etcetera. Nothing.

It's greatly disappointing that I'm not able to play a game that I paid 60€ due to a gamebreaking bug.

I play the game on Steam.

Attached my DxDiag.

Anyone knows how to handle this issue? Steam will not issue a refund because the game was bought too long ago.

Regards!

  • @FinTuyokee Hey, so this was a thing for a lot of players. What it comes down to is what type of drive the game is installed on.

It's about loading game content as fast as it needs to load. The game itself was designed for SSD and not HDD.

The real only way to test it out is to reinstall it to an SSD if you have one. There are not a lot of ways to "speed up" an HDD if Windows and everything else is running on it.

    Alright, thanks for the feedback.

I bought a new SSD, I'll receive it in a couple days and get back to you. I have already an SSD but I keep on it only my OS + some software, so not enough space for a game.

Guess I will have to start the game from scratch again though, right?

@FinTuyokee That is what I do. I have one that runs Windows and one that runs games. Cut down on space in my PC too.

As for your game, no you will not have to start over. The save isn't based on the drive so once you download it again, you should be able to just load right in.

@EA_Shepard Yeah indeed, today I mounted my new SSD (took a while cause I also needed a PCIe to SATA expansion) but yeah, indeed. Game runs much better performance wise, no more issues with non rendering enemies, more smooth and the power cell spawned.
I had to restart the game from the beginning though as my old save was still "corrupted", if that makes sense, but now I could proceed through the game. Sucks a bit that to enjoy this game I had to spend more money for some hardware, but at least I'll use the SSD for other games too.
I can finally enjoy Dead Space in peace!

Hi @FinTuyokee, Oh yeah those cables. I have an entire box full of them just for parts. Ive had to do the same with thie one. I feel you there. It happened when I had a similar issue with AC, had to start over thankfully wasn't very far in. I'm happy to hear you can now play it. That is awesome. Enjoy.

    Cheers!
