Re: dead space - how to unlock 60fps vsync?

No, what you have to do is disable vsync in game and then enable vsync from your nvdia or amd control panel!

If you have VSync enabled for any game from the in game settings. Vsync from 3d control panel will not work! In my case my game was also laggy and I also had mouse problems on Windows 10.

Solution is turn off v-sync in game and turn it on from nvidia/amd control panel. Also make sure you set the game compatibility to run as administrator.

After that my game now runs 60fps at 4K resolution all maxed using GTX 960 4GB GPU!

That doesn't work on laptops. There is no solution unfortunately.

@BLaZiNgSPEEDI never thought about this thank you very much. I wanted to play this as I have the Callisto protocol.. Dead space is the best of the series!

I set fps to 30 fps and enabled v-sync, for the specific programme setting, not global

In game settings failed to work.(spent over 6 hours altering and test running).  Dont use Intel control panel normally, so not sure why this is any different(though there is no fps limiter in most games, let alone dead space).

Really happy to actually play the game again and (oddly) to see Dr Mercer :P  and to play the end! Wish me luck!

Glad to be of help! Yes, this applies for many other games too like FIFA where often disabling V-Sync in game and then enabling it via the Control Panel fixes the lag/stuttering issues.

Btw, I now have a 165Hz AOC 2K monitor and the same procedure applies. I used to run this 60fps on 3840x2160 4K resolution using Samsung U28E590 4K monitor that died after 7 years in August 2022 before upgrading to the new 165Hz AOC monitor.

Interestingly I am able to play the game with 165 frames per second on 2560x1440 resolution using my same GTX 960 4GB graphics card. Dead Space is really very well optimised and GPU friendly!

You can also do the same setting change using Nvidia Profile Inspector and the Nvidia Display Control Panel doesn't even need to run in the background. It can be set to manual or disabled and the settings will still be remembered as those settings will be stored in the kernel memory system.

Adding a couple of useful resources to new visitors that I thought covered most the issues

Though this does not show a thorough solution to my problem and it is hard to read, it is comprehensive:

    https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dead_Space

I use steam so this was the best guide I found on there  - gives a good description of how to fix the fps (invisible wall) bugs, amongst other things:

  • @Aeon9 This seems to be the case, not sure why, but nvidia control panel vsync doesn't work properly for this game, nor adaptive, nor double buffered, nothing... on my desktop it works fine, but on my laptop, running the latest drivers, it doesn't work at all, not sure what the problem might be, maybe something to do with higher refresh rates? Maybe an oversight in the drivers?

Rivatuner doesn't help either, because that just limits the framerate, but it doesn't prevent tearing... sigh.
  • Nevermind, after troubleshooting for a while I restarted the PC and nvidia control panel vsync worked.

So basically if you're in a laptop and vsync control panel isn't working.

1.- turn it on, either set it to adaptive, "on" which is double buffered, whatever you want.

    2.- Restart your pc.

3.- Open your game and make sure your vsync in-game is disabled.

Done! Worked for me, freaking finally!!!
