Can't Get Past "In Your Heart Shall Burn" Save Data May Be the Problem?

Hello Everyone,

I am aware that there are many issues with DA:I at the moment and that these are being worked on.  It's one of the reasons I didn't buy the game at launch I waited until January before I gave in.  Thus far I have completed the game with my mage and had no issues, not a single crash or graphical glitch.  I was ovbiously very lucky and I would say in the miniority?

On my second playthrough with my archer things have gone well until now.  I have reached "In Your Heart Shall Burn" after the cutscene when Casandra tells you "You did it" the game crashes to desktop with no error.

I know this isn't unquie to me but what brothers me is it's only happening with my archer camapgin.  I save often and keep all my save files so I was able to reload a save with my mage before this mission.   My mage was able to get through the cutscene with no crash and complete the mission without incedent. Annoyed I then rushed a warrior through the early game to reach the same mission and again no crash.

As I mentioned previously I save often I even went back to a save four hours eariler on my archer and played from there.  It made no difference it still crashed after the cutscene and it doesn't matter who you side with either.

I have lowered the graphics settings to the minimum and the default, played in windowed mode went offline, disalbed the Origin-overlay thing and cloud save.  I've reinstalled the game twice and ran the repair tool several times I've also ran both Origin and DA:I as Admin. Nothing helps saddly does anyone have an idea why it only seems affect one save file?

I have nothing left to do on my archer execpt this mission so she will have to sit idle until I can fix this or it is patched.

I play on my Boyfriend's computer and will list the specs below the best I can:

CPU:  Intel Core i7 4790K  OC @ 4.9 GHz

MOBO: Gigabyte Z97X-SOC Force Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX

GPU: Radeon R9 290X 4096MB GDDR5 x 2 (Crossfire?)

RAM: 16GB

SSD: Samsung 1TB 840 Evo Series Solid State Drive (x 2 in raid 0) [1.35 TB of free space]

OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64 Bit

He watercooled the computer on his own and tells me the tempretures are fine.  Also we haven't noticed the excessive writing to the SSDs that has been reported by other users.  I don't know if this has been fixed or not but as the computer is not mine I won't be able to make any changes other than settings and software.

Thank you very much for your time I hope you can help. 🙂

  • If it is localised to that one save file group, then either is is a general corruption of something in the file or something that file uses.

If you are lucky it is something on the character or group, ie Bow(crafted??), armor, helmet, DLC weapons/gear, or something you can take off and let it play through the scene.

If you aren't lucky then something about the save/character itself is bugged, such as something to do with your race/sex/facial choices is bugging out.

If it is something that was made/coded wrong then Bioware may actually patch it and get it to work.  If it is something corrupted in your save file, then you are probably stuck, unless whatever future optimazations allows the scene to play....if you are lucky.....

Good luck all the way around, only two things I can think to try other than changing gear, is to run game in compatibility mode for Win7 in windowed mode with lower priority set to below normal in taskmanager.  And to delete your profile options in System>>Main Drive>>Users>>Mydocuments>>Bioware>>Dragon age inquisition>>saves and delete the last two files there, which would be profileoptions and profileoptions_profile, leave all teh DASAVE#### files alone and they should be the only thing in that folder when you are done.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply Mc.  Unfourtuently it had already occoured to me that it may be my gear as I spend a lot of time farming and crafting better equipment.  I know it's some what pointless at this stage of the game but I enjoy it.  I did however try it again after you suggested it and entered the cutscene with no gear equped for me or my party, however this made no difference.

At first I suspected it may have something to do with Cole as for my previous playthough I ignored him completly in favour of Sera.  This was my first attempt to use him in my party and thought that may behind the crash.  I have tried every party combination and I mean every single one I have worked it out the party members don't effect the crash.  I have also tried to go solo but it still crashes. I am playing on Nightmare but I feel I would be able to complete the mission solo "just" perhaps if it would load but no joy. ☹️

I also tried deleting the files you mentioned but to no avail thank you again for your help.  I am going to begin a new campain and see what happens wish me luck.
