Re: [Xbox] Dragon Age Inquisition crashing On Launch

Hey, @LunaNaso

I get it is super frustrating for sure. I am trying to reproduce it and I cannot. If you get to the first EA load screen and then it crashes, that isn't a save issue or a corrupted Keep import. That is something else.

A couple of questions for you.

Do you have a Game Pass subscription? If so, do you have Ultimate? I want to see if you can do a cloud stream from a PC.

Do you happen to have access to another Xbox you can download the game and test it?

When you did a reset, did you do a factory or basic reset that keeps all games and apps?

Do you happen to have another Xbox account, or can someone else log in and launch the game after a fresh install?

What it sounds like is there is still a corrupted file on the console that either your Xbox account or the game is trying to sync up.

    Hi, EA_Shepard Community Manager,

Yes, the problem originally occurred on my Xbox Series S so I downloaded the game to my Xbox One and the problem still occurred. I do have Xbox Ultimate and I tried it on my PC and the problem happened there as well. I ended up going to my Playstation and buying the game, again, through and I'm able to play it on my Playstation.

On my Xbox Series S I did a total factory re-set but kept my apps and games but I did uninstalled ALL of my games on my own, but that didn't work.

I don't have another Xbox account, but I supposed I could try something like that. That's a good idea. I'll give it a try!

Thanks so much for the suggestion!

I'm experiencing the same issue. On as Xbox 1, a Series S, and also on cloud gaming. I've tried the cloud gaming on multiple accounts as well as deleting my save entirely. (The second account I tried with had never even played the game). Starting offline allows the game to launch. I was able to initiate a transfer of my save from 360 but as soon as it was trying to load the game it crashed again.

I started the game a few days ago and it was working fine at first, but then last night it started crashing immediately on launch. I uninstalled and am currently installing the disc version (I was previously playing a digital copy since it is on EA play) to see if that makes a difference.

@EA_Shepard See my post #19, I also had a friend in Australia try and they were able to launch on cloud gaming ok. Not sure if there are different dragon age servers for different regions but maybe that is a possibility?

Hi @palesius1, Depends on how the game was originally set up. Typically there are different server racks for each platform. This changes over the years due to options like cross play, cross progression etc. To be honest, I am not sure how these work for this specific game.

EDIT: I reached out to the team on this one. With DA: TV updates and news being used today, there will be a delay in looking at this. From what I see, it basically fixed itself last time, at least from what I saw. I am keeping an eye on it.

@EA_Shepard Let me know if there are any other troubleshooting steps that would be helpful. I'll post whether the disc copy makes a difference once it finishes installing.
  • Not sure which thing made the difference here but:
    A) Uninstalled and reinstalled from disc
    B) Applied the mandatory update as well as the jaws of hakkon and black emporium DLC
    C) signed in with a different account that is NOT linked to an EA profile (so it does not connect to the servers)
    D) once I reach the main menu, switch accounts to my normal account
    E) import game from 360

After this I attempted to launch the game directly on my account without starting on the other account first and it continued to crash. Hopefully this workaround continues to work.
  • Apparently my account can't be signed in at launch even if it isn't the active one, it must be fully signed out and signed in only after reaching the main menu.

Just adding that as of today, I’m experiencing the same thing. I have a playthrough in progress that I started recently and it’s been fine until I fired it up today - I restarted the console (Series X), and found I could play fine if the console was offline. I tried going back online after launching the game but before loading a save, and it still crashed when I selected ‘continue’ from the main menu.

Luckily it looks like I’ll be able to continue my current playthrough by playing offline - I already downloaded my world state etc - but it is worrisome for future playthroughs that will require online connection to use the keep.

  • Sounds good, please keep me posted im so close to finishing the game.

  • Mine started yesterday too after getting about 95 hours in. I've played this game a bunch and never had this issue previously. For me, I am able to get back into the game while being offline and can go back online in the menu screen fine; however, the issue arises when I try and log into the Dragon Age servers. That's when the game boots me back to the dashboard.

@wardencdrlexa going offline also worked for me. I initially it didn't work as I hadn't set my Xbox to my home xbox. Which is needed to play this game offline as otherwise it wants you to log in to verify you own the content. Hopefully this trick continues to work...

@wardencdrlexa@Ronnet You may want to try what I did above in post #23. My game was behaving exactly like yours. Launching with a different account and changing accounts from the main menu has (so far) allowed me to continue to play the game. You will need to either have a disc copy or play on your home xbox in order for this to work, since you need to start the game with your main account signed out.

  • Has anyone found a fix for if you own a digital copy and you're not on home xbox?

I was playing the game for a few hours and now i am getting this problem.

I've tried everything suggested in the recent posts and nothing seems to work.

Will this problem ever be fixed or have I wasted money on a game that doesn't work

I've tried it on both series x and xbox one

@DustyRaccoon7  The only fix that you could try then is to try to leverage quick resume.

Some people have said they were able to get it to work by immediately launching another game as soon as the initial splash screen goes away and they see the loading icon.

Then go back to Dragon Age and it should pick up where it left off with quick resume (and maybe work)

@EA_Shepard Has there been anything more on this yet? I have other games to play in the meantime but I would love to be able to finally finish inquisition before veilguard comes out and booting the game offline is not an easy option for me

  • This worked for me. Steps I took were I opened the game until I seen the loading icon. Right away I quick started another game and waited three seconds. Went back to dragons

Age and it got passed the shut down stage and to the main menu.

@69a9e227ed948530 See if these work. Sometimes it is a cache issue on the console. Sometimes it is just a network refresh with your modem or router. I asked, there are no current issues with the game at the moment. I would also have a look-see at the Xbox Troubleshooting page.

    • Quit all running Apps (For Series X|S consoles)
    • Remove any connected device, or additional USBs from the console then restart the Xbox and check for updates
    • Try the steps in our Connection and Advance Connection Guides
    • Open you're Xbox NAT Type
    • Change DNS settings (You can use the public Google DNS primary: 8.8.8.8, secondary: 8.8.4.4)

    Alternate Mac:

    • Go to settings > Select General  > Then Network settings
    • Go to advanced settings > Alternate Mac address > Select clear
    • Select restart

I mean this with all due respect but the Community manager don’t know anything. They have been feeding folks the same bull crap about cache thing for years now n it don’t work for anybody. I’ve helped more people on here than they have. N I can give u an easy solution the works for everyone I’ve told it to. Start the game on a profile that hasn’t played it and it will work. Now when u get to the main menu of the game after it connects to the “Dragon Age servers” press the button that says change profile n then change to your actual account that you want to play the game with. But keep in mind u cannot log the other account out and it must stay logged in the entire time and all your doing is switching to your main profile when the main menu loads up. It an easy process but the problem with the game lies with connecting to the servers for whatever reason but whatever the case may be this is the best work around.
