I feel like this was their reaction to folks complaining about "playersexual", which really was such a small minority they should have just ignored it. Instead, they insist that the characters are NOT "player" sexual, they have "their own preferences which will play out if rook doesn't pursue them".
So this is what we got just to ensure that some folks knew 100% that Lucanis and Neve were meant to be straight.
And after seeing it handled this way... Yea if they aren't just going to just leave the romances open to a MC of any gender, then yea go back to DAI style because this was a huge, ugly mess and I'm beyond annoyed.
I never take Lucanis anywhere, I NEVER take Lucanis and Neve anywhere TOGETHER, and I am currently ignoring as much of his story as I possibly can.
I know I'm not the only one. THAT's how disengaged folks are from this part of the story.
You’re definitely not the only one, because I did the same thing with Neve. 😭I really, really liked her, and now I can’t stand her because I’m just bitter. It’s insane that they’ll just pick up a romance if Rook has flirted with either of them, especially in the case Lucanis turned down Rook for the Act 1 choice, because it’s just further proof they don’t care about Rook at all. Friends don’t do that to each other!
I tanked my Lucanis run. I went in to the point of no return with basically nil preparation because I was over it, and I got the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Ending. It didn’t even matter, because it felt so right. The taunts that were thrown at Rook about being alone, the talk about the sacrifice of being a leader, it made sense because of how bad the companions were actually handled and it matched how I, the player, felt. I didn’t feel compelled to do any of their story quests because it just felt like my Rook was only getting asked to make all these miserable decisions while everyone bonded around her.
They’re camping, cooking, having a book club, and Rook is watching it all from the outside, unable to ask about their life, their interests, their thoughts and feelings. The most we can do is pet Assan and play rock, paper, scissors with Manny while we wait for our companions to have a quest for us to matter to them again.
It’s the loneliest Dragon Age game, not the most romantic.
