Thank you for starting this conversation. One thing I'd like to have is more companion banter about Rook's romance - this was great in DAO and DA2.
I romanced Davrin and so far only Emmerich has said anything about it to Davrin, not even Rook! Like why is the Inquisitor asking me more about my relationship and not my actual companions! However...and this goes along with your Neve and Lucanis comments - just about every companion during Lighthouse banter has talked to Neve or Lucanis about their romance.
Also, I haven't even finished the game yet...just getting to Act 3, but so far I have felt more passion just hearing my Inquisitor Lavellan and Solas talk about each other to Rook than I have with the romantic content for Rook. Maybe that's just the voice actors doing their thing, but Rook deserves to have that level of passion in her life too.
I agree, it's pretty sparse. There's a spattering of it if you romance Harding and then have her and Taash in a party, but it's bookended with the two of them continually flirting or Taash borderline threatening you. But Harding rarely even uses the "romantic" encouraging banter for Rook. Not that there's much there anyway, I only ever heard one line that I had to squint at really hard to interpret as romantic. Come to think of it, I didn't hear anything from Neve, either, in the playthrough I romanced her. Maybe they just dropped the ball on the girls.
Far cry from Corrinne's Emmrich who as I understand, DOES use terms of endearment quite often for Rook if you romance him.
Just such massively disappointing all around. I wish I had been a fly on the wall for some of these discussions or that someone there would leak what actually happened, because this game seems so far from anything Bioware delivered for Dragon Age in the past I find it hard to believe these weren't conscious decisions. Like, these were not mistakes. They intended milquetoast, sparse, barely-there romance and no romance scenes. There's no way that every romance just turned into that organically, and I'd love to know why this was the decision they made.
I know they had no way of knowing how popular BG3 would be, and that has some SCENES in it, but they surely knew how well-received the majority of the scenes in Inquisition were, right? And how the biggest complaints were probably about how "Disney-esque" the Josephine romance was compared to the others? At least, that's how I remember the discussions on the forum back then.
It's like they completely misinterpreted the feedback to be "More Josephine, less everything else" when the exact opposite was true...

I have seen that Emmerich's romance is better/the best. I may try one more playthrough romancing him to see if it makes me feel anything.
I just finished the game for the first time last night and honestly didn't really feel anything when my LI professed his love at the end, I think the Davrin romance starts out good with the flirting, but stalls at the end, especially with the poorly timed sexy scenes. Meanwhile I was literally balling when my Lavellan and Solas finally reunite. That just shows the level of passion and connection they were able to create in DAI romances. At this point my Rook is just living vicariously through Solavellan and enjoying the part she had in getting them together.

I also finished my first run (maybe my only) romancing Davrin and from what I've seen/read, it may be a tad bit above others (particularly Lucanis), but still VERY VERY lacking!
And I agree it was very unemotional when Davrin "professed" his love for my Rook. At least it happened, though. The thing that ticked me off the most was at the end they didn't even have Rook and Davrin standing on the same side, or preferably next to each other, in the lineup of The Veilguard. And no Epilogue either?
On top of it all, these lame-ss romance scenes with no nudity, when a nudity option is available in settings, is also pathetic. Each character has their own complete nude texture assets in the files - why are they not used in the game? Just so modders will find them and fix what they didn't want to do themselves?
There are so many things that make absolutely no sense about this game that it is maddening. I really want to write a "reply" to their Launch Letter and post it here, but I probably shouldn't.

My last and likely final complete playthrough I went ahead and chose a Lavellan for the Inquisitor, not sure if the default chooses all the "good" options, but for that Lavellan I did, and I agree, it's the absolute perfect ending to that story if you did a Lavellan playthrough.
Every single one of my playthroughs (of which there were MANY) was as a female Trevelyan, alternating between Josephine and Sera and halfway through Cullen (couldn't finish it, not because it wasn't good, just really not my thing), so I never experienced that particular romance, but even as someone who didn't even get to see her own Inquisitor in the game I was hoping for what happened and was relieved when, this, at LEAST, was delivered for those two.
Felt like a good place to end my love affair with Dragon Age, all the stories I might have cared about have either been trashed entirely (Like Hero\Leliana, Champion\Isabela, and now my Inquisitor didn't really existed because my headcanon is Lavellan).
Don't even know what happened to Rook, if she did indeed get that cottage in Ferelden, and frankly, I don't really even care. Very sad.
