Re: [PC] Game Hard Crashes After 15-20 Minutes

@Keith-hates-tax

Repair the game.

(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

Then try to play and see if the game still crashes after this time.

If it does crash:

Preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.

In clean boot:
- Make sure the "EABackgroundService" remains enabled under point 3 in the guide.
- Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
- Make sure any CORSAIR/ASUS/RAZER software is disable or deinstalled and that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
- Make sure only your Mouse and keyboard are connected to the PC

I did try and verify the integrity of the game files through steam before opening this thread, to no effect.

You should do it again after the windows repair we did.

Ok, I would like to know what is going on in your system.

    • Download hwinfo64 (The green button) > Install and execute the program > Sensors only.
    • Click on the sheet with the green cross (logging) > give the file a name and save it to a place of your choice.
    • Wait 5 Minutes > Start DAtV > Play until the game crashes > Stop the hwinfo logging (the sheet again)
    • Rename the Log to > ">your name for the file<.CSV.txt"
    • Upload the Log file here as you did with the DxDiag.

Will this work if the game is hard crashing the whole pc? I mean, will I be able to pull the logging report after booting the pc back up?

How do I convert the file to csv.txt? It is in csv format by default. I tried a notepad conversion and it seems pretty illegible. The forum won't allow me to upload a csv file. I also can't upload a zip file.

Just rename it. "XXX.csv" to "xxx.csv.txt" (Filename extension must be enable in Windows explorer.)

Alternatively you can upload it at the free file hosting service like OneDrive or dropbox.

From your description I thought a power or a hardware problem of a different nature would be the most likely cause, but the log is practically clean.

Voltage looks fine and there is no thermal throttling, temps of CPU and GPU are OK.

Of course, this is not a 100% reliable diagnosis, which is impossible without "hands on" access to the machine.

Lets see if the system has written or can write DUMP files for the crash.

    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    • In the new Window, type or copy and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) > Press ENTER
    • Look if there are any "Dragon Age The Veilguard.exe.Xxxx.dmp" files in the "..Local\CrashDumps" folder.
    • Zip 2 - 3 "Dragon Age The Veilguard.exe.Xxxx.dmp"  files together and upload them at a free file hosting service like Dropbox or you can use the Onedrive "public" folder.
    • Post the link here.

If there aren't any dump files of DAtV:

    • Press the Windows key > Write: Command Prompt > Right click on "Command Prompt" in the search results > Run as administrator.
    • Copy and paste   reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD    into the prompt Window > Press ENTER.
    • Play the game until it crashes.
    • After the game crashes, let all Windows crash dialogues finish.
    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. > Type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) into the new window > Press ENTER.
    • Zip the "Dragon Age The Veilguard.exe.Xxxx.dmp" file and upload them at file hosting service like Dropbox or you can use the Onedrive "public" folder.
    • Post the link here.

If you want to undo the automatic dump creation, use the command below in a elevated command prompt (As in point 1) reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f

AHQ will be read only as of tomorrow and the new EA Forum that will replace it will be offline due to the transition from tomorrow until January 29.

    Please see this post.

I don't know when you can replay to my last post, but I won't have time to answer today, so I would ask you to answer in the "Technical issues" DAtV section of the new EA Forum at the 29th.
