Was playing through the game as normal and suddenly I can't interact with certain objects in the crossroads- namely so far, Evanuris Altars, Fen'Harel Altars and one of those big chests. I don't know what changed, but they're not glowing to open/use them and there's no interactable button. I've tried reloading the save and leaving the area then coming back and nothing is fixing it.
Earlier in the game they were working.
edit: it's not JUST in the crossroads, it's everywhere.
The altars in my game seem to be already triggered from my first playthrough and never reset to use. Does anyone else have the same problem? I can't finish the Solas Regrets missions because of this issue.
I played a good chunk into the game as a Rogue, thinking that the altars would unlock later in the game - they never did - and then I came across an epic chest, that wouldn't open. That's when I found out it was a bug. So i deleted all my saves and tried with a new game as a Mage. Here I got to activate the Fenharel altar, right after the first champion in the crossroads - everything after that I couldn't. I had been playing on a Steam version. I then realized that I could play the game through EA Play Pro. I uninstalled the Steam version, installed the EA Play Pro version and started anew with another mage. I just reached the Fenharel altar after the first champion in the crossroads, and, again, it won't let me activate it. Multiple saves, multiple classes and even different version of the game gives me the same outcome - being locked out of all altars and epic chests.
I went all the way back to the opening Ritual scene with my current save, and deleted all saves I had after that point. I then tried playing the game again, but this time without going up to the closed off champion-gates in the crossroads (usually the caretaker appears and says something, and then you get a quest in your journal, telling you that it will open up later on in the game). So far I am able to activate all altars I have come into contact with, both Fenharel and Evanuris. Have yet to try an epic chest. As others had stated in this thread, the furniture in the Library room in the Lighthouse had also been disappearing in my earlier runs, I just hadn't noticed. There is a lot more furniture in the room on this run.
After completing the quest where you get Davrin and the following quest, the bug is now back and I am, yet again, unable to activate any and all altars and epic chests.
Here's to hoping that there will be a fix very soon.
I'm stuck at the same power crystal - the last one for the chest in arlathan forest (near the mushroom and hidden by boxes). I can't interact with it. Last night, I also couldn't interact with the other one near it, but on reload today it's just this last one that's not working. Persisting on reloads.
Hey all, our team continues looking into this.. If possible please share a copy of your save where this has happened.
You can zip it to share it here in the thread. If you run into issues, with uploading the save or a zip of it we can grab it from a download link if from a service look G-Drive or One drive.
Didn’t know if you were aware as I had not seen any updates from you. And didn’t see if anyone had responded directly. But this issue was NOT resolved with the most recent patch. Please let us know when you have an update on possible fix.
Also while I think it is important that the root cause for this Bug is found and eliminated, at this point I'd rather have a way to fix my Saves. So I'd very much appreciate it if the Devs could come up with some instructions, a web app or just a small program that could fix them, that way I can continue playing without having to fear missing out on content or being unable to 100% the game.
Here is a save file with this bug. It started after I completed the area in the crossroads unlocked by the Dock Town champion core. Can't remember the name of the quest at the moment.
Edit: Added a second save that is bugged. I went back to the area locked by the Gate of Lost Ages quest after unlocking a couple more companions and opened the gate and cleared the area. After completing the Venatori event in the area the statues etc bug out and are not interactable. This "event" is at least one cause of the bug. I added a third save where I cleared another gate (not the lost ages one, the one near the 2nd set of mirrors), this event does not bug out the dagger at least in my case. The bugged saves are named "bugged" ...
I only had 3 "timelost" chest left in the game to open but I had gotten to the final quest and beaten the game. I then received the patch and tried to reload my save just to say Ive completed everything the game had to offer me but the patch didnt solve anything.
As per many users that have the bug I can 1708067% tell you with confidence it happens because of the Dagger. Something in story triggers the use of the dagger in a cinematic and when you return the dagger seems to be "MISSING from your character view" as in its no longer on your hip while playing. But then once you beat PART 8 and you see that cinematic scene that uses said dagger against the dragon the visual of the dagger returns to view. And then again somewhere between part 11 or 12 it happens again and its no longer "on your character visually"
I honestly hope this helps you. It was a great game that I can tell was worked on by a team that felt they needed to prove themselves to the community again. I had fun but hopefully for the next person out there its working fully
For specific details, certain spoilers exist in this response, please be advised.
Unlikely for my experience even if it makes sense from the perspective of “what” the bug is, because my second trigger was after Revenant Dragon. Not her gate, not the chest. It was right after her battle and speaking to the Caretaker, and her chest was bugged and so were all my safety check altars (as expected). Cutscene for this only had Mythal Dragon dialog without any major involvement of the dagger. Perhaps something to do with unlocking options (this one event sets up a lot for the ending too) or the Caretaker. Also to note as of today (cleaned up everything), boss did not trigger the bug anymore thus giving the potential of a more random or undefinable triggers. Ive placed all my update notes throughout this thread in detail. Which now makes sense why Emmerich and Bellara are so relatable. Sorry i too ramble. 🤣
Either way, the dagger is the what but the why may still be up in the air unless i missed a dagger scene in the entire Revenant Dragon fight i did a few times now. 🤔 (not being sarcastic btw. I may have literally missed it. 🤣)
Unfortunately I've got this bug as well I can't open the unique chests or interact with the statues. I hope they fix this in that patch they've mentioned.
Curious, for those also having this issue, does all of the furniture aside from the middle table and chairs dissappear from the main building entry room in the lighthouse? All of mine disappeared along with it. Everything was there in the beginning, then when the world opened up, I couldnt interact with statues/special chests and all that furniture was gone. Happened on both mage and rogue saves basically from the start. So far, only my warrior save has not been affected.
Noticed this at one point for my playthrough before. Have not tested to see if theyre directly related since i just swapped themes and the furniture came back for me that one time i noticed harding admiring the..err…wall. 👌🤔🤣
initially thought they were related since i thought i couldnt interact with the pedestals for the memories but this feature was locked behind the main story progress after Shades of the Blight.
TLDR: its back. Not much progress into story for act 2, bunch of cleanup while everything works. But a major crossroads boss triggered this bug for me again. Reloading before the encounter and after the gates work though. So i am leaving the boss last since it’s not important until the very end. VERY end. As in after the entire game kind of end. I hate that i had to get spoiled bc of this bug and its repercussions…
UPDATE! My issue with this bug is resolved.
Similar to Kielg413 on this thread, progressing through a major world state update did return the functions of the altars in question, the chests I couldnt open, and the wall that was supposed to be accessible. So avoiding spoilers, try and progress to the next major world state change to see if it resolves the issues for now.
SPOILER TERRITORY AHEAD FOR DETAILS!!
STILL HERE?
YOUVE BEEN WARNED…
After punching the fi—ahem, after the siege of Weisshaupt and defeating the fancy snake and the squabbles at the dinner table, the world state seems to have reset to allow all unfinished business to be done. Not sure if the resolution to this bug, by means of resetting the world state at this point of the story was built in because of said bugs known to the devs, was intentional, but because of story reasons all unfinished business is set up for completion. (Sorry major run on sentence there).
Though another user, Omnicidiel reports that this specific progression did not resolve their issue. Milage may vary. As for the cause… The reasons will continue to remain…unsolved.
its me Kielg413, unfortunately its back. i literally have 2 chests remaining in the game and im right near the point of not return. everything is upgraded to Legendary so those two timelost chests are the LAST things in the entire game i need to grab. here is praying going to my final chapter fixes it
Same. I updated OP in a comment thread above with my experiments for my case. Mine triggered after the crossroads boss behind the three-revenant seal without major story progress (took the mandatory companion quests from Lucanis and Davrin and the rest of the optional companion quests) and i cleaned up all side quests and possible collectibles in case the bug came back. I reloaded a save right before the encounter but AFTER the gates opening and im keeping that boss for very last so as to not block off collectibles in case the last two acts dont update the world again.
though understanding the 3 main acts’ transition points from quest lists online seems to be that “world state update” i was theorizing. Since our “fix” happened after act 2 started (after weisshaupt). Im extra vigilant now. I leave a couple easily accessible altars to verify if i got bugged again. Thankfully i found out right away after the boss since the chest wouldnt open and thankfully the reloaded save after all the gates work unless id backtrack a few side quests before that from a manual save.
i speculated initially that it could be the gates or some ability interactions. Now im also adding the potential for certain enemies or enemy types which was still debunked in my experience since i also just beat a similar big hp boss in necropolis without issues. So if its specific bosses or certain conditions for them im uncertain at this point. Im also adding my thoughts that it could be an input issue when battles get tense and i mash buttons too much with panic mode on 🤣, but i tried to beat the boss a second time doing my best not to mash or spam abilities and still the interactables locked out in either case potentially debunking the input error stuff. 🤔 so as for the cause, i still have no definitive evidence, but all i know is i know what triggered it the second time for me. It was the boss in the Crossroads called….
I see. Dang. Then hopefully the devs find a resolution to patch since the lingering fear of having to do everything now before the end is anxiety causing specially if the cause is something that can trigger again later. 😭 And i really wanna go on for now since its reaching its climax. 😬
Though I didn't realize it until now because at now point in the game were the Altars or the Chests interactable for me and I just thought that they would unlock later in the story. Thing is, I just finished gathering all Companions and with the amount of Altars and Chests I couldn't do anything with up to this point and no signs that this would change anytime soon, so I got suspicous.
And here I am, finding out about the bug that's keeping my quest rewards from me, along with quite a bit of side content.
Personally I suspect that there is a flag in the game, something like "has_lyrium_dagger" that just never got set to "true" for me and that there are a myriad of triggers later in the game that might set the flag to "false".
So far my resolution was to progress through a major world state update. Hope it is for you too since it seems like the trigger is either the final companion recruitment or a gate unlock in the crossroads. 🙋♂️
though the flag makes sense, all my lyrium dagger prompts for, say, over world skills for party members who arent there. I wonder of those are different vs the generic dagger prompts. 🤔
So I went back and checked again and it is definitely something with the Dagger, because when I went and loaded the decision save right after retrieving it and returning to the Lighthouse, where your quest is to decorate your room, I actually had the Dagger, as can be seen in the image to the right. (Img 1)
Img 2: The loop is gone.
Now the next save I have was already in the Ossuary and by that point I already lost the Dagger as can be seen here: (Img 2)
And yes the loop is supposed to be visible even in armor: (Img 3)
Img 3: Dagger still present after completing the Memory of Solas in the Converged City.
Personally I suspect that the bug occured for me when I completed Solas Memory in the Converged City the first time, given that that was the only significant thing I did between the Lighthouse and encountering my first ever Fen'Harel Altar, which already stopped working.
I tried replicating the bug twice with slightly different setups, but this time around everything worked fine.
So I suspect that there is an element of randomness when it comes to this bug.
Regardless, I would assume that a fix for this on the Player side would be quite simple, if a Save Editor for DA:V was already available. Sadly it isn't, and so we have to pray that it'll get fixed with the Patch that is coming soon.
PS: Yes, I'm quite sure that the Companion Ability use of the Dagger is something very different from using it to interact with Altars and Chests. I would say that the ability use is essentially just a reskin of a companion using it, so functionally as long as you have recruited the companion whose ability you want to use, it will likely just check if the companion is with you and if yes, the companion is going to execute their animation and if no, then it's Rook's lyrium dagger animation and the game doesn't really care beyond that.
Now for the Altars and such, you could theoretically encounter them before going to the ritual site to get the dagger, so the Devs needed a way to prevent you from interacting with them while you still didn't have the dagger. And that is probably what is biting us in the **bleep** right now, as there appear to be multiple somethings that can disable whatever is supposed to be telling the game that we do in fact have the dagger and it seems like that the after retrieving the dagger, there possibly is only the switch after act 8 that has a condition to enable again.
