  • Game still crashes routinely for most people that had the directx error since launch, they dont care at this point as its likely not fixable. Frostbite is garbage.

  • I've been experiencing this issue too. Often when I restart my computer I'm able to move past whatever cut scene might be causing the problem. Some cut scenes seem to require me to drop my graphics settings to Medium and then I'm able to pass through them.  The latest scene I tried restarting 4 times, and finally tried dropping my graphics down to Medium on the 5th try before avoiding the crash.

Where: In the Lighthouse when attempting to speak with Neve as part of the quest "After the Storm".

When: The crash happens at different points during the scene, twice prior to Lucanis finishing his initial line asking Neve about the coffee, once just as Neve was about to initially respond, and the fourth time I progressed to the first dialogue choice and it crashed just after selecting.

How: I just finished talking with Davrin and before that Bellara.

PC Specs: AMD Ryzen 5700X, 64 GB RAM, AMD RX 6800, Windows 11

No mods or other 3rd-party tools in use.

I'm on my third play-through; so many random crashes.  Not every cut-scene will crash, but the majority will hang visually while the audio keeps going then black screen with audio continuing until the game crashes to desktop.  What runs fine in one playthrough crashes another.  I'm currently trying to get through the Fire and Ice main questline battle and my game crashed during the opening cutscene, the mid-fight cutscene, and now the last cut-scene.  The second playthrough it crashed only in the mid-fight one, and I don't remember if it crashed in the first playthrough.  For non-cut-scene crashes they tend to be random, usually in the Hossburg wetlands or in Arlathan, generally when starting a fight with darkspawn.

Aside from the Fire and Ice battle cut-scene crashes, the most reliable to crash for me are map-transitions to cut-scenes.

Origin / EA App, Veilguard, and AMD graphic card are all up to date.  The crashes tend to cause Origin / EA App to crash as well.  Usually restarting the game lets me get through the cut-scene fine.  This is the first time I've had such a rough time getting through the Fire and Ice battle due to the cut-scene crashes.

Do you have the game installed on an HDD and do you have the EA app installed on the same drive as the game? Can you attach a DxDiag?

If it is crashing that much, it sounds like there are something else going on. I am on my 3rd playthrough on Steam, once through the EA app on an SSD have run into very little issues. Nothing has changed in the game that should cause it to crash that often.

Just noticed an older comment mentioning DirectX error crashes and most of the crashes have a DirectX error pop up.  I remember one, maybe two, messages (as in only one or two recurring messages), but I can't remember what they said off the top of my head.  I don't get crashes if I keep play times short, which can be hard to do because I get hyper-focused.

NameGani Yeah there are a few Direct X errors that happen. Most that I have seen relate to either PhysX or Nvidia drivers. Most are pretty easy to fix, just have to have that exact error.
