Game crashes when loading into the character customisation screen.

On ps5, disk version. If I skip the intro cutscene, game crashes. If I make it through the cut scene, the character customisation screen pops up for 2 seconds, the characters walk forward, then the game crashes before I can do anything.

I've un-installed, reinstalled, tried to load in with and without the patch, load in offline, reset the console, etc.

Hey shorty4139 Can we give the following a try?

Having an issue on a PlayStation console?

Power cycling is usually the best place to start with PlayStation troubleshooting. This can tackle most of the common issues you might run into.

How to power cycle your PlayStation console

    1. Touch the power button on the front of the PS4/PS5 for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps twice).
    2. Turn it back on after 5 minutes. Launch the game.

If you continue having an issue you might want to give the following a try:

    1. Make sure you have the latest software update.
    2. Unplug any devices attached to the USB slot.
    3. Restore the license for the game.
      1. Go to Settings on your PlayStation.
      2. Click Account Management then Restore Licenses.Clear the MAC Address.
        • From the Xbox dashboard, click Settings, then go to All Settings.
        • Go to Network, then Network Settings.
        • Click Advanced Settings, then Alternate MAC address.
        • Select Clear, then restart your Xbox.
    4. Enter Safe Mode and Rebuild your PS database.
    5. Reinstall your game. If you're using an external hard drive, consider installing it on the internal drive to see if that helps.

Tip: If you're using an external hard drive for your console, whether or not it's for Dragon Age The Veilguard, make sure all of the game data is saved to the same storage drive. If the files are located on different drives it could cause errors or performance issues. If you have the game saved to an external storage drive, reinstalling it on the internal drive might help with crashes or errors.

Yeah, went through all these steps already, still getting stuck at the same point.

It's the only game I'm having issues with so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Booted into a couple other games to check

  • Update, I have continued to try to push through, but now it crashes after the cut scene but before the character creation screen

Are you playing on the internal storage or an expansion card?

  • Did you try to rebuild the database?  To do that, turn your PS5 OFF (not standby) and let it completely power off (no lights on the PS5).  Boot the PS5 into safe mode by pressing and holding the power button until it beeps twice.  When the PS5 boots in safe mode it will ask you to connect a controller with a USB cable.  Press the PS button.  Go to the Rebuild Database and Clear Cache option.  Select Rebuild Database and it should rebuild the database for your PS5.  Depending on how big of an issue there is it could take up to a couple of hours to complete.  For me it takes about 3 to 5 minutes.

For me I have had success in getting it to run by doing this and it will last for a decent play session.  Then it will have the same issue in a future play session and I have to go through it all again.  I have even deleted and reinstalled the game 4 times and after the third reinstall I decided to completely reset my PS5 and install for the 4th time.  But the issues are worse now for me as it will crash shortly after entering the game so I have deleted and reinstalled it for the 5th time.  Hopefully yours will fix itself once and you'll be done fiddling with it.
