[PC] House of the Dead Crashing

I'm going to try this one more time more concisely and then I'll just hope for the best, I guess:

When the cut-scene for the first confrontation with Hezenkoss during House of the Dead (the one in the Fade) should trigger, I instead crash to desktop.  Fiddled with graphic settings, didn't help.  Happens every time, the first 100% consistent crash on a cut scene I've found, as opposed to the game just doing it randomly and then running fine on a second try.  I assume this is related to something known to be occurring for people playing through Steam.

This is my fourth playthrough and I've not experienced the issue prior to it.  Attaching a save file (hopefully zipped correctly but if not someone who could use the info pls let me know if I did it wrong and if so how to correct it because I am genuinely trying to help).  I saved right on the cliff/overhang directly before where you jump down to confront her but for some reason the save always loads me back to the area where you fight the rage demon (which is already dead.  Weird).  It's not too far away, no other enemies to fight.

Specs as far as I can tell that the nebulous "you" I am theoretically speaking to need/want:

On Steam, using no mods at all.
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz   3.60 GHz
16.0 GB
Windows 10 Home
64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    Hey there!

Just following up to see how things are going. This should have been updated and resolved from what I can see? Let us know if you need any assistance.

    Thanks!

Aaaaand...no.  Still crashing at that exact moment when the cut scene should trigger.  Just checked it on that playthrough (which I've now abandoned).  Haven't gotten to that point yet on the new one, it's possible it was one of those stupid things that happens on a game you begin before a patch drops?  But I don't know yet.

How could it have been "resolved" if there hasn't been any kind of patch or update to the game as far as I can see, out of curiosity?

Yeah....just hit it on the new playthrough.  Still crashes, exactly the same place.  FWIW, throwing the new zipped save on here, assuming ....that worked.  I still don't know if it's usable because nobody told me if I did it correctly.

Is there like...anything at all I can do about this?  Just wait for a when/if it gets patched?  Or fixed?  Is it related to the Steam bug?  Is there an actual will-reach-the-dev-team bug report system of any kind I can use?  Is it a known issue?  Is anyone else having the problem?  If it IS a Steam only problem and it won't be fixed is there some way I can sort of...swap the Steam version for the EA version?  I'm at a total loss here, I don't want to finish with Emmrich at risk of dying because I can't complete his quest line...

I am not currently seeing it as an open issue. If you have a Steam thread I would need that. To answer your questions

There is not a direct studio line players can use.
We, the Community Managers, speak with them daily. This is how we get information sent to them from the players
You cannot swap a Steam game for an EA app game because they are separate platforms.
In order for me to forward this over, I would need some save files for before and after it crashes if you can
A video link of where it crashes would be great too.
Are there any Links to Steam where this specific quest is causing crashes for players?

Also, do you have the game and Steam on the same drive?
Is that drive an SSD or an HDD?

Ok, but ...I can't get a save file from after it crashes, because it crashes every single time.  I cannot progress past the cut scene because it throws me right back to my desktop as soon as it triggers, all I can do is give you the one I attached (did it attach??  Please confirm or explain what I'm doing wrong if not?) from right before it happens.  If I could skip the whole cut scene somehow I would, but it doesn't even start: I see the little loading circle on the bottom right, the music sort of stutters, and then recovers, and then the whole game goes down.
I fight the Rage demon, run up the stairs, go through the little area made of books, out to the cliffs in the Fade area, slide down the hill, hop up the little cliffs, and jump down to where we should meet Hezenkoss for the first time, but instead the cut scene doesn't start and I crash to desktop from the black loading screen with no evident reason.  The save I (think I) attached for some reason places me back in the Rage demon area but it's easy enough to run to where the scene should trigger.  Providing both pre-crash save files on both playthroughs it's crashed on is the best I can do at the moment, sorry.  I -might- be able to find a previous save on another game past the point that it crashes but like, not immediately after, probably after the whole quest is over, which probably wouldn't help you much.

I assumed this was related to the discussion thread you started RE "Crashing during cut scenes" ( https://forums.ea.com/discussions/dragon-age-the-veilguard-tech-issues-en/crashing-during-cut-scenes/5030649 )  which does link to at least one discussion on Steam, but it's...difficult to find, if anyone else is having trouble with this specific scene.

The game and Steam are both on D drive, the drive is an SSD.

I'm not sure what you mean by a video link?  I've never taken video like that playing a game.  All you'd see is me hopping down, a black screen and then my desktop anyway :/

I played the whole game 3 times prior to the one where this started happening with no problem in the same spot, the only real difference is the difficulty setting and that Rook is a Crow on both pt's where it crashes, but I can't imagine that would make a difference?  Previously she was a Shadow Dragon or a Mourn Watcher.
I tried punting the graphics down to the lowest setting, it still crashed.
The last save of the last game things worked properly is dated the 29th of November, and the first time I noticed something wrong the save is dated the 7th of December.
I don't know if this was related to the patch that dropped between those dates?

Anyway I'm trying to attach the saves here again, zipped, from the two Rooks it's happening to.  Please advise if I'm doing it wrong, it SEEMS to be attaching, but 🤷 sometimes I get confused.

This is still an issue nearly a week later, just...throwing that out there.  Still got a game that I cannot complete anymore because it apparently broke forever after one (1) month.

Literally even if I knew the problem was with Steam as the launcher I'd buy it on the EA one while it's one sale!  Would just...be nice to know anyone has even the faintest idea what is going on.  Great game that I would really like to be able to play again.

Vrekasht So, yes, it is related to that. I just cannot merge the threads at the moment. With Christmas and holidays, it has been slow going. Accessing Steam Cloud Saves

This should help get those files. There is something corrupted on the file. There are related issues, but for the most part, players are now on their close to 10th playthrough, so the game itself isn't the issue; it is something being corrupted during that, which can be quite a few things.

Ok!!!  So does that mean it's a known thing that they will be figuring out how to patch and fix, then?  Or do I have to do something on my end? Is this an implied instruction to delete the cloud saves, or?

I'd just be thrilled to know there is a potential solution that will eventually happen lol

Vrekasht: It's definitely a known thing.  I have reported it myself. As for it being patched, I honestly don't know that is up to the team on their end. We will never ask to delete saves. We don't want you to lose progress. Its just a way to access them so you can upload them here is all. This one is tricky because I've seen some workarounds like loading previous saves, saving as a new save, loading that new one, travel around the map, and that resolves it. I have not seen one one-step fix for it yet, though.

Ok so two more questions then: is it exclusively a Steam thing, like if I bought the game over on the EA app this would not be a thing that would happen?  And followup question, if I pulled a save from the Steam version and plunked it over to the EA files would that...function okay?  Just because I have a few nice looking Rooks it would be difficult to recreate from scratch.  Or would that cause some kinda conflict on account of it being different platforms?

I'd rather not buy it twice, but I mean, if it's that or "Maybe someday it might get fixed but no promises..." 🤷

Ok three more questions, is there anywhere progress on patching / fixing the issue would be announced that I could keep my eye on, or is this where I'd keep my eye on?
