Screen tearing and jitter when turning camera

My PC is well above minimum specs (i9-13900HX, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 4060 w/ 8GB VRAM) and yet I spent over 4 hours trying to fix my graphics settings just to make the game playable. As it is, the screen tearing and jitter issue is so bad that it gives me an instant headache and I haven't been able to get more than a couple minutes into the actual game. The only way I was able to solve the problems is by turning the graphics settings way down and setting the render scale to 50%. The issue here is that this makes everything look so blurry that it's also unplayable due to the eye strain it causes, also resulting in an instant headache. I have tried changing ever graphics settings, 1 by 1, to see what affect they would have on my issue, many of which required me to restart the game repeatedly.

I finally got so frustrated after spending 4 hours doing this, that I decided to request a refund from Steam so I could purchase it on PS5 instead, but they won't refund the game since I "played" it for over 2 hours . Now I am basically out $90 with a completely unplayable game that I have been waiting 10 years for. I tried contact EA via chat yesterday and first was transferred in the middle of explaining what hte issue was, and then the second agent informed me that they had excalted my issue to their "Dedicated team" and it "will be fixed". I hadn't even explained what my problem was but they didn't seem to care what the issue was, simply telling me the "Dedicated team will fix it". Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

  • so i just figured this out cause oh my god its been bugging me all day. i had massive tears as well- i have amd though is the thing, and i was able to solve it by turning off this thing called "fluid motion frames 2" in the control panel, deactivating enhanced sync and activating the manual vsync. as well, remove triple buffer in game. thats what did it for me. im not too sure how nvidia looks but maybe deep dive into the control panel?

  • This is a common problem with EA games. I have the same problem in Madden and in FIFA/EA Sports FC. I have a solution that works for me. I hope it solve the problem for you.

Go to NVIDIA-configurations -> Look to 'Manage 3D-settings' -> Choose program settings and add the game 'Dragon age: The Veilguard'.

You see a lot of options there. Go to 'Vertical synchronisation' and put this on. Don't choose anything else, because it put off frame generation in game.

Let me know if it works for you!

Doesn’t seem to make any difference, which is odd. I should also note that I’ve never actually seen any screen tearing happen in any of my other video games before, this is literally the first time I’ve ever seen it. My fiance is the reason that I know that what I was seeing is screen tear. So sync was the first thing we tried, but it made no difference, and then we did a deep dive on all other in game settings, as well as various graphics settings on my computer. Eventually, we managed to get it to stop happening, but it involved essentially setting all graphics settings to their lowest (or close to) setting, as well as turning render scale all the way down to 50%. Unfortunately, the game looks so blurry like that, that there is no way I can play it due to my eyes painfully trying to adjust for the blurry look.

I do see a couple others posted suggestions, so I’ll give those a try and see if anything helps. But I did spend a solid 4 hours just on release day changing setting one by one and then in tandem to see what they would change, before I finally got so frustrated I kind of gave up. But, I haven’t tried either of the things mentioned by the others who replied, so hopefully one of those things can help!

Are you able to use the performance overlay from NVIDIA to show your GPU and CPU utilization as well as your FPS?
