While the option is no longer explicitly listed, background services can still be disabled by turning off both "Continue updates while the app is closed" (in Settings > Download) and "Application updates" (in Settings > Application) in the settings menu.
Once these toggles have been turned off, the background service should remain disabled upon the next launch of the EA app and all subsequent launches. However, the service may still run automatically while the client is actively in use or running in the background. Once the client is fully closed, the background service should shut down within a minute or two, as was the case with the previous toggle.

Nah it still shows as running when i close with application updates off. Continue updates while the app is closed, has never been on. If that one's supposed to stop the background services just saying well it ain't working then?
