Another way is, after fully closing games and the app, and you know your app is up to date head to Windows Services.
The EA backgroud app is set to manual (at least it always has been on my PC). So make sure it is set to Manual.
Then you can simply stop the service. It will stop when you switch off or reboot the PC anyways, and only restart the next time you start the EA app.
Main thing is make sure it's on Manual. Mine stops after about 1 minute, maybe 2 minutes with the settings mentioned by EA_Leewu, above.
No issues, it always restarts (needs to be active) when you launch, and have the app open.
Steam has a background service which has always been set to Automatic on my PC. Amazingly, and they deserve praise for this, the instant the Steam client is closed, the service stops, despite it being set to Automatic. It doesn't ever start on PC start up either, only when opening Steam.
P.S, I have monitored by watching services and, task manager many times, and do so frequently as I don't like unnecessary background services. The info is above is correct, If EA service is set to manual which may be default.
My post is just a bit of extra info in case normal way doesn't work, but should be able to just follow what EA_Leewu said and it should stop within a minute. It does work exactly as he said on my machine.
I always check "about," first when starting the EA app. I like to have it running when the app is open that way it is easy, or automatic to update.
EDIT: Sorry OP, just noticed you mentioned you go to services so this post will not be useful to you. I'll leave it as it may help someone??
thanks I suppose I wasn't patient enough to wait a mere minute. I always just immediately stopped the service upon exiting the app. all is well then. I'm just used the old way i guess. before when you disabled background service. it didn't even show up in the list of services at all. only the task manager when you launched the app and it closed instantly when leaving the app. Oh by the way somehow i skimmed past the part where Leeuw said it would only take a minute my bad.
