Soooo, starting up the EA App WITHOUT starting BF4, it shows my name change. But when I start BF4 through xbox (which is the only way it'll allow me otherwise it says this EA account isn't authorized to play) it switches to this different account.... WHYYYYYY??!
But when I edit profile on the correct EA account, it sends me to the same exact "my ea account" web page as it sends me in the "gold" account... so they seem to be connected..?
Am I just S.O.L.?

So, what I think is the issue here is that your Xbox account (with Game pass/EA Play) is connected to a possible old EA account, maybe with the "gold..." name. If you still have access to this EA account, you can easily change the EA account name by signing into https://profile.ea.com.
If you don't have access to this EA account, the best thing you can do is contacting our live support via https://help.ea.com/contact-us or https://bit.ly/EAChatSupport.
