Are you running the game via Steam and trying to launch it from there?
If it still doesn't work, try uninstalling the other version you have of the game and then try again installing the new version via Steam.
Also try repairing the game via Steam:

Ya, that was my next solution, but I added the Northstar mod so it was a bigger PITA and I would have preferred to avoid that. I'll give it a try and report back. Thank you

Okay, great, @LMS5100! Let us know if there are any further issues with it.
So I couldn't uninstall the original copy I had through EA. I had to remove the files manfully.
I did that and had no TF2 copy installed.
Reinstalled the steam version launched EA and the game was not found in my lib anymore and now I get this error which is a bit different, but I still can't play the game. I'm guessing my registry is corrupt or something, but who knows.
I'm actually 100% out of ideas other than reinstalling windows which is totally insane. Can I please get a developer to help me out there, Is there an error log I can look at?
