Command and Conquer Remastered will not launch games

Summarize your bug There are files missing from the install folder. I have tested 2 computers. Both have the exact same problem. Neither will launch the game. An XML directory in the Data folder is missing.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Install game, open launcher, accept admin privilege, attempt to start either title. Fail.
What happens when the bug occurs? Game will not start, Petroglyph Crash Report Creating crash report... Saving crash report... Writing dump file... Contacting crash reporting server: http://crashserviceext.petroglyphgames.com:6570/ Packaging report for upload... What do you expect to see? I expect to play the game?

I am having the same issue. I am getting this in my log:

[0x00002424]:11-02-2022 18:45:14,631| XMLDatabase::Read -- File open failed on '.\Data\Misc\APFINFO.xml'


EA Support has given up and will not continue via chat or email, they do not know why their installer is broken and refuses to help.

The Misc folder is missing entirely.  I have done the following:

1. Ran CCleaner

2. Reinstalled game (several times)

3. Repaired game (several times)

4. Ran pc with all non-microsoft services disabled, then reinstalled EA App, reinstalled game, repaired game

5. Searched the web for answers

6. Gave EA app admin permissions before install

7. Gave all the launcher.exe's admin permissions

8. Attempted to run in Win XP/Win 8 compatibility

9. Cleared cache of EA App and reinstalled everything again

10. Attempted to run just the .exe's

11. Installed the game on another machine

After all of this, neither game from the launcher will work, on either machine. The launcher itself will open.  It ALWAYS SAYS THE SAME THING, the XML directory is missing.

    @TheGerbenator Try this: From the EA App click top left corner / Settings / Application tab / Disable In-game overlay and Notifications

    I have a feeling it's the overlay that's deaded.

    I have also done the following:

    1. Ran scf scannow

    2. Removed any readonly permissions on the drive it is being installed on

    3. Turned off every single built-in windows firewall

    4. Reinstalled again, after removing all files from Registry

    Still getting the exact same problem

    I feel for you. Have done the same last 2 days. Not getting anywhere soon.

    Had the game running for two weeks & one day it simply stop. Crash report. . . . . .

    Consider buying a copy under Steam,, seems like some out there still running.

    EA's support team via phone, chat, email, and twitter has given up.  They all tell me to come here for a fix. 


    There is good news though!!

    I have reached out to Petroglyph, who helped make this remaster, and they cannot get the game to work either.  So they have sent an internal memo to EA.

    @TheGerbenator thats good news, really hope they fixed but sometimes stuff dont work but a credit should be issued

    Have spent many hours going through all the suggestions online BUT FAILED. But I must say I have had a good 2 weeks of running it without any issues before it decided to stop working.

    I have now just purchased another copy of the SAME game(C&C Remastered Collection) under Steam & installed it on the SAME PC.

    This is my 2nd day running. Keep my fingers crossed.

    OMG!

    Thank you! It was the EA overlay or notifications, just like you thought! Haaaaaaaaaaa. I thought it was fishy that most of the log talked about Steam, and not EA/Origin.  That's hilarious

    @a62f483d407d7026 God! Thanks a lot. I have already checked the files. And reinstalled the driver. And I reinstalled the game on the disk with Windows and repaired the files with the cleaner.
    Everything turned out to be simple. Turned off notifications did not help, turned off overplay, the game started ..
