EA App game Stuck "Preparing Game"

Product: The EA app
Platform:PC
Error Report ID (learn how to create an Error Report ID in the sticky post) 4095f908-5d79-498d-8754-8e6b1b180115
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Launch Game
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) Noticed on 15.02.24, last working on 13.02.24
Summarize your bug EA App fails to launch games from both the EA App itself and from Steam games that launch the EA App. Infinite "Preparing Game"
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I do not know.
What happens when the bug occurs? For EA App launched games, getting "Preparing Game" after hitting Play, then nothing. (I do occasionally see the "The EA App has minimized during gameplay" message in the bottom right, even though the app is still visible) For Steam launched games, I get "preparing game", the EA app closes, then reopens. It shows "Preparing game" again, then repeats, infinitely until I kill it with task manager. The problem is not localized to a single game, it is any game in the EA App
What do you expect to see? The EA App minimizing and the game launching.

Things I've tried to fix this issue:
- clearing the EA App cache
- Running the EA App "App Recovery"
- Running EA App as Admin (EADesktop.exe)
- Running EA App in compatibility for Windows 8.
- Uninstalling/Reinstalling EA App
- Restarting Computer
- Shutting Down computer and starting from fresh.
- Closing EA App and launching game from Steam itself.
- Uninstalled EA App, deleted AppData EA related files, Reinstalled
- Updated graphics drivers
- Turned off firewall
- Launching the games in offline mode
- Launching the games with "airplane mode" enabled.
- Tried launching the games directly from their executable, without the EA App running
- No internet and in offline mode.
- Manually restarting EABackgroundService service
- Used Revo to remove EA App, found a ton of leftovers, which it deleted. (Still didn't work)
- Turning off EA In-game Overlay

Launching these same games on a separate computer with the same account works fine.
The other computer is running Windows 10, the problem computer is running Windows 11.

The games I'm trying to run are the following:
- Battlefront II (Owned on Steam and run from Steam)
- Sims 4 (Owned on EA App and run from EA App)

  • I left the EA App not running for about a week. The problem just "fixed itself". I don't know what to say about it. Definitely didn't require a windows reinstall (Even though that may have worked if I did). I guess EA just updated their App or something?

That is my very last resort.

Edit: I kind of expected this to be one of the answers, but not the first one... hopefully there are other solutions I can try before doing this.

@ColonolNutty Alright I did it it worked but be really careful it worked first time I started it but I wanted my controller connected so I reboot. I have a 2560*1440 144refresh monitor and the game was set to 4k so I had to alt tab thru the menus one click at a time to change display settings till it matches my monitor. What hell. Good luck.

I did reset my PC. The only that was keep after reset was my Account with my Documents and Downloads....Alls Programs and applications was removed.

I install EA app and i readdress my Games to the EA App.....My Games was installed on different hard disk.

After re-downloading and re-checking i try to launch both of the Games Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield V, but in both i have the same error preparing game.....nothing happen after that

  • Turn off your wifi while it's loading the the preparing game screen. Then it will force the damn app to ask you to load your save files from local save. Turn your wifi back on immediately after you select your option. That's how i get it to work.

Or try to connect to a stronger network when it loads up that screen it also works. Ithese are the two options i use when it happens.

Sometimes closing the EA app in task manager and starting the game again can resolve it.

    Good luck

  • SOLUTION EVERYONE - Try going to your windows search and looking up "services" and click on it and find "EABackgroundService". Check to see if its startup type is set to disabled and change it to manual. Was my fix.
