I know I am replying to an old post, but I am having the exact same problem.
So far things I have tried.
Clearing the Cache on the EA app.
Reinstalling the App.
Purchasing another copy of the game.
Dealing with EA customer services, who have made me try to jump through the same hoops over and over again.
Renewing my Subscription to Xbox Live, (again to experiment and prove a point).
Trying to convince the EA customer service rep that I have owned this game since it's release, when the rep is adamant that I must have been playing it through a subscription. (I bought the game on Steam and was allowed back in the day to activate it on the then fledgling Origin app by EA (as they were keen to get users onto their digital platform) some 5 years before PC subscriptions began.
So far the best I get, is that I can download and play the game, but when I shut the PC down, after the restart the EA App tells me an update is required for the game, and then proceed to tell me "we have cancelled the update as you don't own the game".
The only solution than, has been to uninstall and reinstall the game.
The fault seems to be some sort of issue with the DRM embedded in the game possibly linked to the shutdown of the old Origin app.
I reckon I'm due another visit to EA customer service. Or I'll just have to play the Steam version which thankfully doesn't seem affected. But if I find out otherwise, I'll let you know.
