Hey there, as you're using an external drive, when you disconnect and connect it again, there's a chance it will be assigned to a different letter, which can cause issues with the EA app recognizing the game's folder location. If you connect your external drive again and start the installation from the EA app again, it will create a new folder. You can then pause the installation and move your previous game install into that folder and replace its files. After that, the EA app might need to just repair a few files, and you should be able to launch the game without having to install it all over again. Please note this is not guaranteed to work, but it's a possible workaround. I also suggest that you keep a backup of the game files in case you need to repeat this process.
