Summarize your bug Downloading games from the EA app is super slow, while task manager takes up way more bandwidth than the download itself.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Just download a game and compare the reported speed to task manager's reported speed.
What happens when the bug occurs? Over 150mb/s of data is downloaded that is somehow NOT the game.
What do you expect to see? Matching or similar network usage.
EA app reports game download speed of 17mb/s, while task manager reports 200mb/s being taken up by EA Play.
In order to replicate: Download any game in EA app. You will see the game download speed reported is much much slower than the internet download speed your ISP provides. This seems to be a bug itself. After that, launch task manager to see the download speed actually matching what your ISP provides. The bug is that the speed reported is not the real download speed. Tons of internet bandwidth is wasted downloading mysterious and unknown data onto the PC. While I understand there being a difference, that jarring amount is far above what should be acceptable for the EA service to take up with so little of it being download the actual game.
I have talked to the support team multiple times, and every time I am told it is my ISP. I have made very clear to them this is not an ISP issue. It is not a NAT issue. It is not a bandwidth issue. It is not a hardware issue. It is not a wired vs. wireless issue. It is an issue exclusive to the EA app software. I know some people don't take those steps before reporting bugs, but I assure you I have taken every step possible up until this point.
I have attached a screenshot showing the difference in download speeds. It amazes me how those whose ISP imposes a download cap per month can use this application without realizing how it is harming them.
- Hi @TheDarkWolf868,
Mbps and MB/s are two different conversions.
Looking at the picture, it looks like there isn't really something wrong with the reported download speeds.
