EA App Requires Restart Error

Product: The EA app
Platform:PC
Error Report ID (learn how to create an Error Report ID in the sticky post)
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Other (Please Describe)
Please describe Update download
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) May 17,2023
Summarize your bug Since last week any time I go on to launch the EA app it says the app requires a restart to download an update but when I go to restart it won’t apply the update. I’ve cleared the cache 5 times, uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, uninstalled my mods and nothing is working. I just want to play sims 😭😭😭😭😭. Can someone please help me please I can not even access my games because the pop up covers the whole app.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Pops up everytime I open the ea app
What happens when the bug occurs? A pop up saying restart required to stay online. Restart now then I click restart and it goes to download but never applys.
What do you expect to see? The download to apply then for me to access the ea app

(cm edit - updating thread)

  • After factory resetting the laptop and reinstalling the app and reinstalling the game and all my packs everything is finally behaving itself. It never told me an error code it would get stuck at 0% applying when I would restart to apply a new update. I tried so many different ways of to fix this issue I’m just it’s finally working. Thank you to everyone who tried to help I truly appreciate it.

  • @sassysav98  Please restart your computer and make sure that the EA App and the EABackgroundService are NOT running in the Task Manager.  (The latter would be in the background processes list.)  Then open this location:

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop

and run the EAUpdater.exe.  When it's done, the App should be fully updated; let me know if it's not.

It may help to run the EAUpdater as an admin, or to disable your antivirus before running the .exe.

I tried your suggestion and it did not help unfortunately. Thank you for trying anyways.

  • Hi, @sassysav98  a bit of a wild guess, not shure if it's even connected, so you may ignore it, but easy enough to rule out, so I'll ask. Do you have free space on your hard drive? And not only for the update itself but like 20+ GB of free space on the drive that EA App is installed?

If not you may try freeing up some space (even temporary) and then try running the app or aplaing puzzlezadddict solution.

I had 50 gb of free space left on my hard drive. I ended up factory resetting the whole laptop last night because I was so upset will update with results if it worked. Sims in my comfort game and when I can’t play it I get upset very easy.

    Outstanding suggestion!

I skipped restarting my computer.  Just killed the processes you suggested, manually ran the update, and presto-bingo.  All is well with my EA app now!

    Thanks!

  • TY puzzlezaddict  - tried this and had to delete my old shortcut, picked a new shortcut after it updated and created a new EA Desktop. TYTYTY!!
