UPDATE:
I'm being told here by the EA Live Support that only AmEx and JCB cards work? Can't see how this is true, considering I used a VISA card last week to purchase a different item...
Having the exact same message pop up when using my card/ other cards. Unsure on what’s wrong it’s impossible to talk to anyone at ea. I’ve sent an email but no response.

Just to confirm, have you given the steps shared in this thread a try yet? Please check whether you're using one of our accepted payment methods to be sure.
With payment issues, it'd be best to contact our live support team rather than sending an email. Once you submit that form, you'll be redirected to a self-service page that'll have the option to chat with an advisor.

That's strange maxjacknasty, since VISA/Debit VISA is one of our accepted payment methods.
Perhaps try using a different browser and an incognito or private window to see if your purchase goes through then. It'd be worth making sure cookies are enabled and that ad blockers are disabled while you give that a try, and also trying a different network or mobile hotspot. If you have a credit card, I'd give that a try too.
Have you tried paying after removing the payment method from your wallet? Or alternatively, adding a payment method before checking out? Another option would be to try adding funds to your EA Wallet, then paying through that instead.
