Hello,

Being an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, I thought I'd give EA Desktop a download and get the benefits of EA Play on my PC. Everything was fine, I've managed to download and play Titanfall 2, A Way Out and FIFA 21, without any issues at all. But for some reason, I logged into EA Desktop the other day and the client is now asking me to download these games I already have installed and have previously played for several hours. I have also had an issue where the play button is replaced with a greyed out "loading..." button, but nothing ever loads. I've noticed that these games have also gone missing from my list of installed games on the Xbox Game Pass for PC app. I've obviously checked and double checked the install folder and everything is where it should be, with every game in its right location.

I also own outright Battlefield 4, which EA Desktop is also prompting me to download, so it doesn't seem like it is an XGP / EA Play account issue and more of an issue with the EA Desktop app not recognising my installed games even though I've played them through the app before. I am able to launch and play Battlefield 4 through Origin like normal. When I do happen to hit the download button, it doesn't actually start downloading anything and hangs on "calculating time" forever.

I really like the EA Desktop app's design and usability, but it is such a buggy mess and it's a shame that Xbox Game Pass subscribers are forced to use it if they want to check out EA Play as Origin does not support EA Play through Game Pass.

  • Hey @hektorgg,

It could be that the cache is the cause of this.

You can easily clear the cache of the EA app by clicking on the 3 lines in the top left, and then going to Help > App Recovery.

That should do the trick, please let me know if it doesn't.

  • @EA_Jason Not working at all. I played Sims 4 less than 24 hours ago with all of my DLC, but now it wants me to download 42 (FOURTY TWO) add-ons before I can play. I've restarted my computer. I've cleared the cache several times. This is becoming super aggravating. I'm going to try uninstalling EA and then I'll reluctantly reinstall it and see if that works.

If it doesn't I guess I'll just give up on the Sims franchise entirely, because this like my 3rd major, game-hindering tech problem in past week and I'm spending more time on EA answers than I am actually playing games.
  • yep its a complete joke.. i'm not looking forword to installing Mass effect legendery edition once i get around to playing it. i cant belive they dont have a located installed game like with steam.

And two years in, STILL the issue is not fixed. EA doesn't care about their customers. This is just more proof.

  • oh yeah and fun fact, I'm running it through Lutris and although I actually have enough space to install the game in question again without deleting it, the stupid app (probably because of some WINE stupidity) seems to think there's less than 10GB so it won't even go through the motions and attempt to find and verify the files before it downloads them again - which it probably wouldn't even bother to check in the first place because this app is a stupid and thoughtless piece of crap much like EA themselves. And in that, it's PERFECT.

Why y'all wanna be like Steam but not as good? Why does this stupid app exist only to suck as much as it does? Why, EA, WHY? Why can't you go back to being a company that people LOVE instead of HATE??? I guess you don't care as long as you get that dolla dolla from the sports games every year, they're like WDGAF about the users... I miss Trip Hawkins' EA. I don't know WTF THIS is. Some late-stage capitalism BS.

@castorfieber thanks a lot, did a Windows reset to freshen up my pc and for what ever reason, EA app would not recognize BF2042 on my external drive and wanted to do a 40gb repair, did this and I only had to do a 4gb update that I knew it had to do anyways, did it with my other games and instantly was able to play them

2025 and the EA App still does not see my game is fully there, I moved it to a new drive and point the download to that location and it still wants to download. The worst game app out there!
