expansion pack won't download

So I recently bought the for rent expansion pack on the sims and I keep getting "download error" even though I have enough space? I tried contacting someone but got no help whatsoever and get stuck on "waiting for player" with no further instructions on what to do. Can someone give me a step by step guide to fixing it or will I have to file for a refund.
