Forced into EA App and want to go offline / stop game updates

Unpleasant surprise upon trying to get into The Sims 4 tonight -- I was forced to switch from Origin to the App and I can't find offline mode.

Last month I purchased High School Years and a couple other packs after not updating the game for nearly a year (because MODS, oh so many MODS), and updating everything was an absolute dumpster fire.  I have no desire for better babies and I don't want to go through the mod rigamarole again.

PLEASE tell me that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and that it's NOT a freight train!
