game won't update

My Sims 4 game won't update now that we moved to EA. 

I play my Sims game from my external hard drive and haven't had too many issues when it was operating on Origin. But when I logged in today, it told me I needed to switch to EA app which I did. When I log in, it says I need to update Sims 4 before I can play it; however, whenever I try I get the attached error message and am asked to restart the app. I've restarted and redownloaded the app, but nothings working. Is anyone else having this issue or have a recommendation of how to troubleshoot? 

I'm running on Mac Monterey if that's helpful.
