Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried that using this link and it still pops up with the forced update EA app window with no way around it, which uninstalled Origin. So I'm back to square one and also have to tell the kids today they can't play any games until EA fixes their app.
Hey @lgaudet going forward you will need to use the EA app to play your EA games.

@EA_Darko any ETA on the EA app being fixed?
$$$$$ in purchased expansion packs and add-on content shows I no longer own it. Existing game files are not playable. My guess is because they have content I bought that the new EA app does not recognize I own. The only option is to start a new blank game with base game content and a lot of missing content. Reinstall does not work.
If I try to reinstall any missing content from the EA app, it would require me to re-purchase content I already paid for.
If I try to reinstall any missing content from the game launcher, it says the game has to be updated and install failed. There is no option to update the game and "repair" did not repair anything.
Thank you,

Same here.

I've now had this problem on other PCs, all Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, all fully Patched, all working absolutely fine, and all cannot Upgrade from Origin to the mandatory EA App.
Now I cannot access any paid for content, and cannot go back to Origin.
There is no option to override the forced EA Upgrade, it now dominates the Origin screen, and there is no workaround.
I have tried all of the various suggestions to get around this, such as Running the EA App download as Administrator, making sure all Windows Modules are updated, and turning off Anti-Virus.Nothing works.
The EA App Upgrade always downloads stuff, then halts at the Installation Screen, then, after a little while, it announces something has gone wrong. and would I like to submit a Report to the Droids, which I do every time.
I must stress this exact same issue has happened on different well specified PCs and Laptops, and it is very obviously an EA App problem.
This is, effectively, a catastrophic EA App Upgrade failure, because it totally prevents any access to existing paid-for Content.
There is no obvious way around this, and nobody should be expected to spend hours trying to find a way around what should be a simple update.

Was this ever fixed? I was forced to update on 2/28/23 and the same thing happened to me. I chatted with a person from EA Support and they said it was a known issue. I'm irritated that it was a known issue months ago and they still forced people to install this app. I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars on the Sims franchise content, and other games, that I now can no longer access.
Somebody make it make sense...PLEASE!
- BylineBelife2 years agoSeasoned Ace@nakei_lilly Have you tried installing the Origin Thin app instead? It fixed it somewhat for me and at least allows me to play my Sims games. There are some issues with that Origin version as well though, like buying DLC etc, but there are ways around that. https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Client-Web-Technical/Downloading-and-installing-Origin-Windows-and-Mac/m-p/11915666#M134033

This would be fine if the EA App actually worked. Is there anything being done to remedy this? It seems ridiculous that we simply no longer have access to our games

This is why I so dislike any Software that requires an online login just to run paid-for content.
Eventually, the Company will neglect to keep the Servers going, and the Software will become unusable.
Although in this EA App case, the Company concerned has simply made an epic mess of a forced upgrade, and has contrived to disable all access to paid-for Content in the process.
Is there nobody left running the Company who has any authority to supervise what the children in the IT Department get up to? Or to ensure they actually test their creations before unleashing them on unsuspecting Customers?
Come on EA, crack on and resolve the problem you have created.
At the very least, disable the forced EA App upgrade in the Origin login, so people can carry on with what works in the interim.
Tick, tock, the clock is ticking, and people are getting very annoyed at the total lack of action, or even of an acknowledgement that there is a problem.

@MayPanDayI couldn't agree more. I've had hit and miss (mainly miss) luck with the POS app. EA should be ashamed of themselves. I have tried multiple of the so-called fixes, with the exception of going into my Admin and change my local setting. Not going to risk my PC and other software.
EA we have paid a lot of for our games. Could you at the very least STOP requiring us to login or even access the internet to play? The EA APP is so buggy that it thinks that I am not online, but here I am typing this while clicking the "retry" for the 34th time on the freaked up POS App. Hell, I'll be happy going back to Origin if a login is necessary!

HI
fix found
go to
C:\ProgramData\Origin\local.xml in notepad
add
<Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true" />
launch origin fixed
How about you not require an app nor a seperate launcher to play games? Shocking thought I know.
Yes I really respect your suggestion, but the problem I'm having is like this (Image) please open it, at point 3, my FIFA application only has Play and it tells me that I'm in game. But what happens, the game doesn't appear and just stops on FIFA Launcher

The EA App doesn't work. Give us back Origin until you actually fix the problems with it. I'm going to demand money back on all of my games if you force me into a program that doesn't allow half of them to start up.

What's going on EA?
I see we are back to the annoying EA App launcher from the Origin Login, which fails every time.
So, I'm back to having absolutely no access to PAID FOR CONTENT, due to the broken EA App rubbish.
This has been weeks since EA last tried this, and yet, here we are, weeks later, and it's been re-deployed in the same broken state.
Get a grip.- 2 years ago
There's a petition circulating that is calling EA to either stop with the login to play (non multiple player games) OR give the users (EA-APP OR Origin Launcher) a full refund to games they can not access. I should have signed it when I had the chance. I have well over $2500 invested in games. If I can some across the link, I'll share it. EA will probably "ban" my account again after this post.

That FORCED EA app upgrade does NOT work.
Can not access games via Origin either.
Nothing works.
It seems the new EA app cant make the connection to the Origin games, possibly because the EA game is 64 bits and Origin is 32 bits?
At least stop the forced upgrade until this is fixed please !

They rolled out the broken EA App many weeks ago, and it didn't work then.
Seems they thought if they pulled it, and left things a few weeks, it would then fix itself.Oddly, it didn't, and it's still broken.
This would be wonderful, except for the fact nobody can now access PAID FOR CONTENT at all.Extract a digit EA, and fix this mess, again.

EA App Black screen.
Troubleshooted for 2 day straight now without success.
Only method left to try is to uninstall Origin and all the games and start over from scratch downloading EVERYTHING again, if the EA app works ...
I tried that. Uninstalled Origin and all of my games. Then rebooted my system and installed a thin setup of Origin. My next step was to run the new Origin to see if it would kick me to the cursed EA which it did not. Gave a sigh of relief and installed my Origin games (which I paid for) and played for one day and then, low and behold, Origin reverted back to wanting to run through EA. Good luck and I hope you manage better than I did. It seems so wrong not being able to play games we paid for; maybe my idea of a class action suit isn't a bad idea. After all of this grief I don't belief I even want to go to EA once, and if, things are straightened out.

they had YEARS to fix the ea app, but NOPE!
still broken
origin still has to popup for me
and unfortunately, running origin offline it fails to display anything
what reigon are you in @BylineBelife and origin version?
it seems to be a case by case basis where it pushes you
someone needs to figure out what to block 3 months ago!
using the origin bootstrap log, i've found that origin gets the update data from
https://api1.origin.com/autopatch/2/upgradeFrom/[versionhere]/en_US/PROD?platform=PCWIN&osVersion=[OSVERSIONHERE(Major.Minor.Build)]&servicePackVersion=1.0&priority=8
https://origin-a.akamaihd.net/Origin-Client-Download/origin/live/OriginUpdate_[Origin_version_here].zip is where it gets the data for it, and I've downloaded the files for the version I had before the latest update...
maybe I could block origin from checking there own servers?
but that would be the whole api domain, which may stop other things working
UPDATE: I manually downgraded my origin version and blocked the api using my hosts file
cloud saves (because installing ea app uninstalled origin and the default is on*) and microtranactions in NFS payback don't work, but it still see all my entitlements as they were (I've got backups of the origin data folders), and I could create a multiplayer lobby
avatars also do not show
but no popups?
*-restoring data folders to previous version also reenabled origin autoupdate which i had always set, HOWEVER, the cloud save option has always been off for me, so it seems it may actually need to reach the servers to be able to read a non-default (OFF) setting for cloud saves.
but since it can't reach cloud servers, you just need to ignore/press some prompts
- 2 years ago@EA_Darko How about fixing the problems with the EA app first BEFORE forcing everyone to use it instead of Origin? My Dragon Age Inquisition is not working correctly anymore since I had to swithch from Origin to the EA app, and I cannot use the EA app in offline mode. Your team should have thought about these problems BEFORE making the EA app mandatory for everyone.
- 2 years ago@Esfandiyan Exactly!!! But sadly they are incapable of fixing things and making it better or us users who are suffering with their poor programming on EA APP, and now forcing their users to switch on a badly made not properly tested app.
To be honest let the users decide if they want to continue on using Origins or switch over to EA APP that simple, but they cannot comprehend it by the looks of it and if they are that too desperate about the switch over EA APP then there should be features that surpass Origins and more stable, user friendly and easy access like you know "STEAM". - 2 years ago
In a nutshell, many of us are now just sat waiting for EA to reverse the problem they have caused.
Everyone affected had a perfectly workable system to run existing PAID FOR CONTENT, then along game a forced EA App upgrade, that has completely locked us out.
I just get the Origin Login Screen, then up pops the mandatory EA App upgrade pop up, and I can go no further.Tried letting it install the EA App, and it always fails, with some annoying message saying do I wish to inform the Droids!
I cannot get past that, as all Origin Menus are disabled whilst the EA App upgrade pop up dominates the screen.
As mentioned, they did this several weeks ago, I did nothing other than the above, and then one day, they pulled the EA App upgrade, and Origin Login worked again, as it had before.
Things then worked fine as they had done via Origin, and all seemed well.
Then the EA App upgrade came back, and here we are, locked out AGAIN!
I am reluctant to change anything, as nothing on my system is broken.I know from last time that the issue is with EA, and not local to my equipment, so there is nothing to be gained by breaking anything just to try and get around a broken EA App upgrade.
My advice is to hassle EA without mercy, and get the message out to anyone who will listen, including updating any Buyer Feedback Ratings if you have left any, to caution new potential buyers to tread carefully and, if possible, establish if this problem of EA's own making, has been resolved, before parting with any hard earned cash.
This is all plain crazy, and quite insulting from a Customer perspective. The issue that has broken access to PAID FOR CONTENT, is not the CONTENT but some daft App that EA is trying to push onto existing Customers who are simply not interested in it, because it does zero for what they already have, and have paid to have.- 2 years ago
Strange thing is that some people manage to use origin, and most of us not.
