Mac EA app - "The app crashed unexpectedly" or "Background Services Crashed"

I play on mac with the latest version of sonoma. I recently was forced to give up origin and move to the ea app and things were going pretty smoothly until this recent sims 4 update came around. I've been trying to update my game to the latest version however the update will get to like 21% before the ea app crashes. Then when I open the ea app again it crashes immediately. To "fix" the problem and make the game playable I have to quickly turn on offline mode before the ea app crashes again and cancel the update. The deadline to update is tomorrow and I dont know what to do. Forced updates suck ☹️
