My Steam purchased games won't launch.
My Steam purchased games won't launch. I'll hit the play button in Steam, it sits a few seconds then goes back to being a play button. I tried in EA app and it does the loading popup then either that disappears and does nothing or stays up loading non-stop. Initially it was a problem with Mass Effect LE, but now it won't launch Jedi Survivor or Need for speed which both worked before without an issue. I have cleared cache, reloaded EA app, reinstalled games, took out the game and EA app, cleared registry entries, reinstalled all of it, checked my video card drivers, ensured windows is up to date. I've been in contact with chat "support" twice who claims they did something on their end each time, point me to a help site article that has nothing to do with my issue (different one each time) and tell me to come here, that they can't help me any further. I'm not a novice when it comes to computers but I can't figure this one out on my own and EA support is useless. They can't even tell me if there are any logs anywhere to look at that might help identify the issues going on. I'm at my wits end. It's the no errors part that really irritates me since there is nowhere to even start looking for potential issues.
I gave it one more try this morning. I uninstalled Mass Effect LE, manually checked the game folders and deleted anything I could find related, deleted the EA app, combed the registry and got rid of any EA entries (post uninstall) , reinstalled my video driver, rebooted, installed Mass Effect LE, let EA app install off that, and then tried to launch. What I noticed is that when launched from Steam, it doesn't try to start the EA app if it isn't running. I started it manually, and signed back in, linking my Steam account. Then tried launching MELE from the app, same issues persist and still no errors. It just will not launch. Since this has spread to all my EA games could this be an issue between my Steam account and EA ?
Before anybody ask I did try searching and didn't find anything that was exactly my issue or that I hadn't thought to try already. What am I missing?
I stumbled on the problem and it seems to be with Steam not the EA App. I recently brought my kids into the mix and setup a Family group in Steam. The Steam app parental controls won't allow them to play certain titles. Apparently if Family mode is on (which it starts in by default) even though I'm the group admin and listed as adult, it was blocking the launch of the games and not throwing any errors nor notice that that is what was going on. As soon as I exited family view I was able to launch all my EA titles no issue. Turned it back on for good measure and it wouldn't launch the games again. I'll report it to Steam support. I can't believe it took me this long to figure out that is what was going on. It didn't happen prior so it must be related to recent updates.
