New EA App made my games unplayable and says I don't own content I bought.

The new EA app does not work and made my games unusable!

1st thing I noticed when I was forced to download the new EA app in order to play:

1. Current game files are no longer playable.

2. You have NO CHOICE but to start a fresh game file.

2nd thing I learned:

3. MOST of my PAID FOR content is gone. Expansion packs, add-ons etc. The new EA app says I don't own them. WTF. We are talking a LOT of content bought over the years. A lot of $$$ for us non-rich people with bills and cost of living to pay for and families to support.

4. Attempt to reinstall fails, saying the game that was UP TO DATE THAT MORNING (yesterday) needs to be updated. WTF.

5. There is NO UPDATE BUTTON, but only a "Repair", which did not repair anything.

I uninstalled the broken new EA app and reinstalled Origin (still had it in my downloads folder). Did NOT allow updates. I almost thought that would work, but the game launcher kept crashing. Then without allowing updates, it still updated to force the install of the new broken EA app.

NO ONE IN MY HOUSE WILL BE SPENDING MONEY ON EA PRODUCTS UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. Seriously, why buy something you can't use because it's broken?

Clearly the app was not only released before it was properly tested and working, but forced on users without any alternative options. This was avoidable.

  • A somewhat intemperate reply and though I agree with the gist of what you're saying, perhaps if you were a little less vituperative and left politics out of it you'd reach more who agree.

  • "why buy something you can't use because it's broken?"

Why continue to support a company like EA that forces its users to use a new app that doesnt work and may trick some people into rebuying content they already own.

I have just had to problem of all my games not loading in the new app but the store page still works I can still buy games.

Stop supporting criminal companies like EA!

  • @lgaudet@lgaudetDoes your computer save to One Drive Cloud? My new system forced me into One Drive on the cloud before I could create a local account.

My software installations were a mess. The EA games were all failing. I got share violations, and all kinds of irrelevant notices during installation. I was not sharing anything. I was installing from disk, which got forced to upgrade Origin to the new EA App. I could see my games in the library. I could download them, but they failed to run

It seems the EA APP does not like the upload/download of One Drive and thinks you are sharing files. I had to create a new local account and set up a new desktop. Then I was finally able to install my software. Sims 4 worked but I still have issues with the EA app and Sims 3. the launcher loads but the game does not play.

I put in a ticket for it with my specs. If this is the same problem you have. Watch my thread for an answer from EA. Hopefully it comes soon. https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/EA-APP-Sims-3-Launcher-loads-but-game-fails-to-run-Windows-11/m-p/12540587#M258251

  • I have submitted this problem to EA over and over and they act like it is no longer an issue. I am really going to start looking for legal remedies. I bought everything as it came out in the stores and online at the official sims 3 website. Just because I bought a new computer for gaming does not mean I do not own my content. I also bought sims 4 content but don’t like it. I don’t have access to any of it most of the time!!!!  That is fraud. I paid for something and EA claims I don’t own it!

  • Let me get this right, games that i have had for years. I now have to pay you monthly, or annually to enjoy anymore.  I had origin, because your company demanded it, but at least they didn't charge me extra to play MY games.  I think that if EA does not fix this quickly, I feel another class action coming your way.

  • There is not, nor have I heard anyone give, a good reason for a game overlay, one that benefits the players.

We may say what we like, EA and UBI are not idiots and between them produce some of the best games around. But, they are also in business to make money, and players come a distant second to that. New ideas, new games, new features are not easy to come by and sales are falling, so they are seeking new ways to keep the revenue coming in.

I've said this before, the reason for the overlay is money. It costs to produce it, and they don't do it without making a return on their investment, it's there to make $$. Anything else they tell us is pure BS. It wouldn't be quite so bad if the damn thing worked properly.

Bought a new machine? Swapped out a bigger hard drive? Added more memory? Great now start paying again.

Since Microsoft got away with the outrageous licencing agreements for their products (the PC is the licence holder and owns the software - not the PC owner) it seems companies like EA are slowly working towards a similar arrangement. Eventually, and I'm speculating here, we will not be able to transfer games to a new machine without payment because you don't own the software, the machine does.

No matter how much we moan, they know that in reality there is little to nothing we can do.

For that reason I've not played for nearly a year. I've given up playing/buying  EA games. I'm not aware of any changes that will lure me back.
