Product: The EA app
Platform:PC (Windows)
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Launch Game
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 6/07/24 and started a few days ago since the June 10th announcement
Summarize your bug I can't open the EA app and therefore can't play games (seriously, either fix this stupid app or give us another way to play the games we've paid for and should be able to play)
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to start the app.
What happens when the bug occurs? I get a pop up saying it's connecting. Then I get a message that says: "Background services crashed The background services aren't responding so we're kicking off the update manually. Stay put while we get the app up and ready for you." I have the options to "restart app" or "cancel". I click to restart and get a new window, with a black background and white text, that tells me the app is up to date and then has a countdown for a few seconds before closing. I try to start the app again and the entire process repeats itself. I saw another post here from December (I haven't had this issue until recently, maybe a week after the new pack released) that gave a way to fix it, but I haven't been able to fix it using the methods it listed.
What do you expect to see? The actual app and the games I paid for that I should be able to actually play.
I've never made a post here and the most recent thing I saw about this was almost year ago, I tried uninstalling the app, but it literally won't uninstall, so I can't reinstall it to try and fix it.
I don't know whether or not this will help, but I spent 4hrs talking to help-people on the EA website and this is what got my app up again:
If you're running Windows 10 or 11, follow these steps to clean boot your PC:
- Open the Start menu.
- Type ‘msconfig’ in the search box and press Enter. This will bring up the System Configuration window.
- Go to the Services tab.
- Check the box to Hide all Microsoft Services, then select the Disable all button.
- Go the Startup tab, then select Open Task Manager.
- Once the list fully loads, right-click and choose Disable on each of the programs listed.
- Close the Task Manager and go back to the System Configuration window.
- Select OK to save your changes, then restart your computer.
Then I had to use System Configuration to Enable All again and restart again.
Then it gave me EC10000 error the first time but did open the app behind it, and then the second time it opened the app on its own. I don't know if this is permanent - we'll see.
If you want any of the other fixes they gave me without bothering to go through them, I'll give you all of the steps.
