Hello community. I wanted to share the steps I just took to get past this "Download Error", at least it worked for me for Battlefield 2042.
Here are my steps and good luck. Check my Extra Notes at the bottom because it could be related to download server request query issues.
- Stop and cancel any downloads and updates you are having in The EA App. Be patient and wait for the game to no longer say "cancelling" on the left side under "Installed games"
- Go to the hamburger menu (three lines top left) Help > App > Recovery > Reset Cache
- When the app restarts here is the last thing that worked for me: Change your Install location to the correct destination you want your game to download to. For example the app installed to the C drive but my games folder is on the F drive, so I changed it to my F drive.
- After that I was successfully able to download Battlefield 2042 from scratch in the same instance.
Extra Notes:
I've been resetting the cache and restarting the app following all those steps found on the forums and youtube for 2 hours tonight.
During this time it is quite possible the issue resides with the download servers not routing customer connection requests in a timely manner to prevent DDOSS. The app is not kidding when it asks you to give it time before you resume your download. I haven't tried waiting for more than 5 minutes before spamming the resume button but if anyone wants to test this theory then try and wait for at least 20 minutes before you hit the resume button, this could very well be the problem / solution. Some companies will not be transparent with how they manage server security but it's the customers who eventually suffer without at least being told for how long they should wait to resume their downloads.
Good luck and I'll see you in the battlefield!
