PS4 Original Controller not working when EA App is open

My PS4 v2 controller works fine when connected via USB to my pc while I am playing APEX Legends through steam. I don't even have to be in big-picture mode.

When I started Titanfall 2 through Origin, it worked with no issues.

Now that Titanfall 2 forces the EA  App to be open and origin does not exist anymore, if I want to play the game, the controller does not work at all.

Mouse and keyboard works with no issues while playing the game, but I am not a mouse and keyboard player.

Why is the EA App killing the controller on a game that was originally designed to be played on a gaming console with a controller.

Is there (or will there ever be) a solution for the controller not working while the EA app is open on the pc?
