Re: Desktop beta app will not uninstall

UPDATE - Work around:

After opening C:\Program Files\, I manually deleted the Electronic Arts folder (only the EA Desktop folder was in it).  I had to also manually close EA Desktop background services from Task Manager to allow the folder to delete.  Once removed, I was able to re-run the Add/Remove Programs uninstaller for EA Desktop, which now completed successfully and removed itself from the list of installed programs.

I just did this and it's not working at all. Every time I try to install it again, it says it's already installed. I dumped temp files, looked for anything associated to EA on my pc, and from what I found it didn't work.
Used control panel, and Revo, used CCleaner, nothing. It still says it's installed. This is aggravating, and EA support has been completely unhelpful.

I’m having this same issue. I installed EA DESKTOP, and I was  receiving error messages. So I uninstalled EA DESKTOP with the intention of reinstalling it. After uninstalling when I try to reinstall I get an error saying EA DESKTOP is already installed. When I click launch it opens my System 32 folder. I’ve even deleted all registry entries pertaining to EA DESKTOP, and same issue.

Is there a fix for this or just use Origin for now?

I didn't know how to add to this topic without replying to someone's post, sorry about that. But I wanted to say that I might have found what is causing problems for those uninstalling EA Launcher and that is a little service inside the files called EA Background Service. I don't know what exactly it does but I cannot delete it no matter what I do and there are about 10 other files I cannot delete within the EA Launchers files and they say its because EA Background Service is running which makes me think the app is secretly always running so you cant delete. Who knows maybe I am wrong. Just though Id add what I found while trying to delete this god forsaken app.

EDIT : If you end the task in task manager labeled EA Background Service, it should let you delete the entire launcher files from your PC. At least that's how I fixed the issue

    Workaround #3

A little thing I found out, not sure it will work for everybody, but uninstalling the xbox (beta) app then uninstalling ea desktop worked for me. Hope this helps someone :D

    Workaround #4

    first go to ea.com
second sign in and go to account settings
third go down to connections then unlink the xbox subscription
    should uninstall now.
simplest method for amatuer pc users like me

    Workaround #5

I recently had an issue starting a EA Play game through the Xbox application too. luckily I didn't delete my trash files so i was able to restore the file to what it was and then used Revo uninstaller to scan the corrupted files and it worked I was able to fresh install EA Desktop again. I hope this can help somebody!

    Workaround #6

So I been dealing with this problem for a week now, an temprorarely workaround would be, if you have created an windows restore point BEFORE you have uninstalled EA Desktop and load it. Thats how I kinda fixed it at all, from now on you'll be able to try reinstall EA Desktop, if thats either not helping, you supposed to reset windows completely.
Pls let us know for those who have tried this method, that would be helpful for others,

I just tried all of that but none of it solved my problem, now I don't any EA Desktop file in my computer and registry, but for some reason when I try to reinstalled it still say it's already installed, before it said it wouldn't find the app on the right file, but now when I try to go the app it just takes me to my desktop. Now I have this "cancer" in my computer that I can't get rid of, I can't play my games and I just wasted my money in this trash company which can't even make a decent piece of software.

@PyroDrake1134 thank god i saw this!!! I have been trying to uninstall the damn app due to a 500 error. said something mysterious was happening preventing me from playing games only. Waited for days. cleared cache, app repair and even tried to believe ea reps advice it was a network issue. last option I found was to deleta app. Saw this thread, saw your post, and it was because the background service was running. THANK YOU!!! I love you man!!! Think i will stick with Origin for a while.

@Branthir Thank you! this worked for me too. I wasn't able to uninstall from the app or from add/remove programs, but ending the "EA Background Service" in task manager let me uninstall in about 30 seconds.

It won’t allow me to manually override it. It says folder or file unit is open. I’ve deleted everything and scoured for any thing ea and this is all that left. Any way to fix that? Thanks

@PyroDrake1134 This worked perfectly for me (windows 10). The EA app was refusing to uninstall normally since you can't uninstall an app while it is running, and EA is always running in the background. It keeps running in the background even if you close the window. You have to use the task manager to force the app to stop running in the background. This was really damn annoying - the stupid app runs and slows down your computer so much and you can't even uninstall the damn thing. EA has a special knack for testing my patience.

    Hi all,

I am going to close this thread to stop it from being necro'd.

If you're also experiencing the issue that's being discussed in this thread, please create a new/fresh thread.

    Thank you.
