It was up to date and still doesn't fix the problem.
My biggest concern is getting a refund. I now see EA has zero chance of doing that and has a history of leaving customers high and dry.
The chat said they had no power and no superiors above me and directed me here, lol.
I am so over this company.

What exact error do you see in the EA App when you try to download the Sims 4?
It stays at preparing. I am tried of the troubleshooting. A refund is required but EA is a horrible company. Absolutely 0 customer support. Remember that when you make purchases.

@Kingbones33 OK here is the link down below to speak to an EA advisor for a refund.
I don't know if they will give you a refund or not, but it won't hurt to try.
Reply if you need any more help.

You didn't exactly help yourself by initially claiming that the problem was with EA Play the support rep was trying to troubleshoot that.
Now that we know that it is the EA App it may be possible to help your issue with that.
You mentioned being able to download the game from Steam. Does the game work when you start it from Steam? You must have linked your Steam account with your EA account. If it does and you want to keep playing through Steam.
Please cancel the current download. Restart your PC and clear EA App cache. https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/ try to download any pack you own on the linked EA account. If that succeed start the game to verify it works. Then download any other packs you own on that account.
The account is not linked to steam at all, they are two completely separate accounts.
Focus on this aspect. Why can I download the three other games I purchased through their EA software, and not a free-to-play sims 4. Yet I have paid for expansion packs through their and have no way of using them. My problem is I see others having this issue, and EA is doing absolutely nothing. I have had difficulties with EA in the past with linking accounts, so I never tried that nonsense again.
I find this issue ridiculous, as it's clearly an EA issue specific to the sims 4 game only.

In order to play the game from Steam the two accounts needs to be linked. This should be explained on Steam If you no longer wish to play from Steam you should uninstall the game there and then follow the instructions I gave.
He did not played on steam he played ON Origin and purchased expansions through Origin. He only gave an example, that he can play free Sims 4 on Steam, but no longer on EA App.
- @jpkarlsen Dude, just stop. You are just as bad as EA. Stop bringing up SDTEAM at all. I don 't have issues with STEAM. WHY DO I OWN EXPANSION PACKS ON EA AND CANT DOWNLOAD A FREE * GAME ON EA TO ACCESS THOSE EXPANSION PACKS. This is an EA sucks problem and their software is atrocious. With no ability to help people when they have real issues.
- @herrpietrus I am glad you at least understand my prediciment. I am mad I own something through EA's software that I can't acess. Because the one game I can not download from EA is sims 4, which is free. I see a l;ot of other users having this issue, so stop pretending like it's not real. EA sucks, they are an awful company. I doubt any compensation ever comes from this. EA is fraud. EA practices theft and has no customer support to help the user. DO NOT SUPPORT EA.

You contradict yourself. First you say that he did not play on Steam then you say he can play on Steam. Besides his issue is with downloading not playing.

Since you refuse to do the trouble shooting steps I posted I can unfortunately not help you. I do hope that you eventually find a solution to your problem.
- @jpkarlsen If you read back you would see I have tried plenty of troubleshooting steps. I bought Fallout 76, way freaking better anyways. EA can chock on a fat one, don't support their crappie products. If anything goes wrong, you gotta deal with it. I want a refund so I can just purchase the expansion packs through STEAM. So I never have to use EA's horrible software thats obviously broken.
And just so you know, every troubleshooting step yopu suggested doesn't work anyways. SO stop acting like EA. Admit that something is wrong with SIMS 4 in apticular, with downloading it through EA. I can download other games on EA. I can also download Sims 4 on steam no problem. Three months ago I had no issues playing SIMS 4 through EA. This is an issue that popped up. No one wants to actually admit something wrong, they just blam it on the user. Get the F out with that nonsense, do you get paid by EA?
What would also solve this issue is some real customer service. Instead of helping me, EA sends me here. It's a joke. - @Kingbones33 The Sims 4 seems to be one of the biggest offenders (or should i say "offended ones"? lol) when it comes to EA App, literally EVERYONE is complaining that it's not working properly after the forced transfer from Origin to EA App. And it's been months now.

Hey All,
As this conversation is now going a bit sideways and getting way off the main topic, we are going to lock it down. If you are having issues with a game, or content, we ask that you please post relevant information on that game's board.
As a refund request has been asked, Here is the information on refunds, how they work, and how to request one.
Cheers!
