Re: sims 4 updates requires 19 GB disk space

I'm still having this issue.  I'm unable to update or play The Sims 4 because of this.  I have 12 GB of free disk space and I can't free up more space.  Also, it shouldn't be my responsibility to free up more space if the update doesn't actually need that much space.  This is clearly a bug in the EA App and should be fixed by EA.  How come I can't use the product that I've payed for?!

    @RubianSim

Freeing up the required amount of disk space should allow you to proceed, thanks.

I am also currently having this issue and I don't think this is a helpful solution. Why does an update require 19 gigs of storage though? That's a huge amount. Is the latest update really this big?

  • @EA_Barry That's not helpful at all? The game already takes up 19GB of space in my computer and now I need ANOTHER 19GB of storage to re-install in after EA changes their interface? I can't make that much space without uninstalling the sims completely and losing all of my save data. And I cannot back it up, because I cannot open the game until I have the space free. You see the issue???
  • But why does the update require such a ridiculous amount of space? It's just as much as the game itself, which I can no longer play because I can't update the new platform without deleting all of my saves. What is part of this update that takes up so much space?

  • That's ridiculous. The game itself takes 19gb of space, an update should be much less. We'll lose all our game data if we need to uninstall and redownload sims.

  • I agree I’m having the same issue I’ve been trying to clear storage on my computer for a week now and I can’t clear more than 627.19MB and I’ve deleted everything I possibly could I think they should fix it I didn’t pay for a game just to not be able to play it

If it were the Origin app, this wouldn't have been an issue. The Origin app only required the same amount of space for the update and that was it. Why is it that we are always having problems with EA and the app?

  • Yea this also just happened to me. It also wouldn't make sense if it was a legit update that was happening at different times for all sims users. I literally was just playing the Sims 10 minutes ago, I quit the game to fix my mods, and the next thing you know EA is asking for space LARGER than the game itself for an absurd update. Like, usually Sims updates take 5-10 minutes and only take up a couple 100 MB, not 20 GB. It's like I'm reinstalling the game all over again.

EA-Barry As others have said this is not a helpful response - we should nt need to clear the space the size of the game for an update - for many this may not even be possible

This was not an issue in Origin so EA sort it out so that users can play Sims again - quite frankly this is not good enough

  • Exactly. It's honestly ridiculous, to get enough space to install the update I would have to delete The Sims itself just to get enough space. Please fix this EA.

mine goes up to 5 percent and then it stops and says I'm out of storage but I just have enough storage
  • I only have the sims 4 on my pc, there is physically nothing else i can delete in order for this 20G update unless i delete the game itself!

@EnidFairfax @Lucy82x @Phileinn @livsimpsons  and anyone else affected, please list the free and total storage you have available on your C drive as well as the drive where you've installed Sims 4 if it's not C.  You can open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, then use Windows key-shift-S to capture the part of the window showing the drive data.  Please either post this screenshot or write out the info.

Please also post a screenshot of the error the EA App is giving you when you try to update.

At least one person has reported that repairing Sims 4 helped get around the error, so you can try that too.

  • Can you please just fix it I’m really really really having a hard time and I literally just got a hard drive so I don’t understand

  • I’m having the same issue! Even after “repairing” the game. This is beyond ridiculous!

I have well over 19 GB of space, but a 19 GB that is more than the base game itself is unrealistic. I don't understand how to fix.

absolutely bonkers reply. "just have an extra 20 GB of memory on your computer, duh". are you joking? like are you actually kidding? this was never a problem with Origin but EA is just determined to make things difficult at every turn and then offer no solutions and flippant responses... I'm getting excited for Life By You because I think EA doesn't care at all anymore.

  • This is insane. The first time EA told me this was about a month ago. And I Cleared my space, so the update ran through and once it finish it didnt require the absurb 20gb. Now this time I dont even hve 2gb of storage to even begin to clear for the 20gb update. Something needs to be done asap bc im tryna ride horses too yk...

It won't let me repair since I guess the update already started downloading (I force quit EA and went back in and it didn't change anything). This issue is bonkers. The update requires 5x the amount of free space I have.

  • @kat211123 if it helps, for me most of my storage is taken up by mods (the sims is the only game I consistently play on my computer) so when I need to download the update I shift over all the mod packages to google drive. It's a veryyy time consuming process but it allows you to empty storage and then redownload all the stuff when you're done updating
