"Something went wrong" Game Pass PC on trying to install EA Play game

I keep trying to install an EA play game from the xbox game pass pc app. Every time after I install the EA Desktop App as prompted, I will click install again and it always says "Something went wrong... To continue linking your EA account, head back and start over". I have uninstalled the EA desktop app and the xbox app at least half a dozen times, and I'm at my wits end. I've restarted my computer 4 times, but nothing works. Does anyone know why it keeps displaying this message and doing nothing? I can't find any other alternative, and it doesn't provide enough information to explain why it's not working.

  • I have figured out the root cause of my problem. My xbox account is linked to an old EA account which I had EA support delete many years ago. Unfortunately, it still remains linked to my xbox account. I contacted EA support again to unlink it, to which they said they can't. They told me to somehow undelete my account and do it myself, but the password recovery didn't work, as it wouldn't send it to my email of course. EA support also said that they couldn't un-delete my old EA account either.

So basically support said that there is no way I'll ever be able to use EA Play with my account, but that they certainly hope it all works out for me.
For everyone else, this may be the same for you. Your xbox profile may be linked to another EA account. Recover it if you can, and then unlink it.

  • @L-wig i had to hardwipe my system an did it from a factory reset. everythings been installed completely fine now. but the system still has issues with downloading files to the proper drive which i fixed but thats an issue on ea's side
  • This worked for me:

Search for an installed application on your computer called App recovery with the EA logo and execute it.

Delete the cache and automatically it will launch the EA application and try to sign in with the Xbox logo.

If there's something wrong with any of your credentials it will ask you to recover the account.

    Follow the instructions

    And that's it.

    Hope it works for you.

I am having the same issue still in May 2022. My super old account was somehow "deleted" even though I'm pretty sure I personally never took action to delete it. It is tied to an email domain that is no longer in use, so I have zero ways to login and reactivate it (which they say is required for de-linking to my Xbox account). I think the issue is truly just poor database design around referential integrity and/or lazy DBAs. I have full control over the linked Xbox account so there should be another way to de-link the accounts. @EA pls fix!

  • It's not that EA can't fix the issue, it's that they don't care to. Their support system is outsourced, and don't really have a desire to actually help outside of routine cases. If you can somehow find anyone outside of support to help you, it is possible, as some people have done so through other contacts. It's actually a simple problem to fix, the only issue is that they can't be bothered.

  • I am user of steam and my problem was solved in a very strange and simple way, my steam name was "I´m noob so don't complaint" i changed to a non offensive name and voilá!!!

    Cheers

This is on the older side of time, I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with EA app please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.
