The server encountered a mysterious error...
hello, first time encountering something this disruptive and been unable to fix, so sorry if anyone else has solved this problem. I recently made the switch from Origin to the EA app, and I was able to download the Infants update just fine, and do not currently own the Growing Together expac. I play on PC, Windows 10.
after making the switch the day before yesterday (3-17-2023), I did all the usual troubleshooting and checks to make sure everything was functional (start new save without any mods, slowly integrate mods in after checking compatibility with the patch, etc.) and had no problems aside of a few very minor hiccups that other users seem to be experiencing as well. I was able to play the game without issue after updating, and again yesterday (3-18-2023).
upon trying to load up the game today, however, the EA app tells me through a little yellow popup "Things are taking a little longer than usual to load up. Hang tight while we try to solve the problem." after waiting some time with no progress, I tried to launch my game in offline mode, but couldn't. I've tried restarting my desktop, restarting the EA app, logging out and back in to the EA app, clearing my cache through App Recovery twice now, but haven't been able to access any of my games. They don't appear in the sidebar, and when I go to their "hub page" through my Library, I just get the error screen that says "The server encountered a mysterious error. Try again in a little bit."
I first tried to play early this morning, and received errors. Now about 5 hours later I'm still encountering the same errors. Is there something else I should try to fix this issue, or do I just have to wait?
EDIT: After a little more digging I found a fix, however temporary it might end up being. For any Windows 10 users encountering my issue, please try opening up Task Manager and looking for something called EA Background Service in your Background Processes. Select it and the EA App and hit the End Task button. I've seen some users say that this needs to be done every time you want to play, but it's better than nothing, I guess. :\
