Why am I getting pop-ups about being over my time limit?

As the question above says. I pre-ordered, bought and downloaded the full version of BF2042 - for PC - via Origin. Lately, I have had to use the EA Play app; since EA gave me no choice about it, if I wanted to continue to get any value from the game I purchased from them.

Now, it would appear, if the pop-ups are correct, that unless I pay EA a subscription, I will not be able to play BF2042 for as long as I like; despite having paid a lot of money for it, having played it every day since it went live and having been forced by EA to use EA Play to access the game at all.

I appreciate that 10 hours game time per day is - certainly for me - more than adequate. However, it's the principle of the limit - and the fact that I've never been near playing the game for 10 hours in a day - that is irksome.

Indeed, one pop-up warned me that I was more than six hours over my limit. I'm not even awake for 16 hours in a day - never mind having enough time on my hands to spend it all gaming. I'm a 60 year old Brit - not a 15 year old S. Korean gaming genius.

So, I'd like to know why EA are trying to take me for some sort of mug. You've had my money already. What makes you think I'm going to pay you more, when you're - basically - trying to extort it from me? You aren't the Mafia - or even the Chinese government. Why act like them?

Yours, time limited and annoyed about it,

FP.

  • Hi everyone

Thanks for letting me know it's not just me.

I am now wondering if it's seasonal. The warnings just stopped not that long after my OP. On 23rd December 2023, they returned.

I am still playing less than 10 hours a day - but at close of play tonight, I had racked up over 100hrs over my daily limit.

That's pretty impressive for someone who doesn't know how to manipulate time.

I'll contact EA, maybe - but I just got the S.6 T.1 badge, so I'll more than likely just return to Baldur's Gate III until Season 7 of BF2042 shows up.

  • The same thing has been happening to me since I switched over to EA App literally years ago. It never stopped. Even with "unlimited" in the settings, it still keeps popping up during the game. There's no option to disable the notification without stopping tracking time, which is not what I want to do. It's very frustrating and I'd like to hear what EA has to say about this.

  • Same issue here. Playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition (owned, i do not have an EA subscription), and it's saying i'm 50+ hours over my daily play time limit. It's set to unlimited and more obviously, a day is 24 hours, so i'm somehow bending time while playing.

  • @Fake_Plissken Apparently I'm at 63 hours over my daily limit for Dead Space (Remake) that I started 2 hours ago via GamePass. What's the point of allowing games on GamePass if you're gonna try to limit me even though I'm "paying"?

Im having the same issue. I never enabled any playtime restrictions. Im an adult.

Also the notification is gone within two seconds. When you play with two screens and do something on the other screen its gone before I can barely read the first words. When I see it instantly I can barely finish reading the last words before its gone.

  • I'm currently 56+ hours over my daily playtime despite only having started Sims 4 about 2 hours ago xD
For me the notification pops up every about 10 minutes or so and seems to like to jump about one to 2 hours each time.

Also the notification sometimes doesn't pop up for weeks or months, until it suddenly does again with no indication as to why. I have no playtime limit set, just tracking my overall playtime, but even then my playtime for the past 5 days is only at 25 hours, so I have no idea where it's taking these hours from.

Maybe it's instead falsely tracking the time the EA App is running and using this as playtime? That would line up with the weekly use of my laptop more than my actual playtime. I have the app always running in the background for convenience, it opens automatically at start-up. I'll disable it for now and report back if I find any changes! ^^

  • This apparently is still a thing. Playing ME Legendary edition, nearing the end of another trilogy playthrough and suddenly today it's been popping up inconsitently but consistently enough to get me to report this. Purchased game, time limits are off and playtime tracking is on. I like seeing the time played in my games so I'm not turning off the latter. Not game breaking but surely annoying as hell for something I've "purchased".
