You should be able to go into your Origin Settings, the Downloads tab, and change the options that are available there.

@iluminatethesky as i stated in my original post, i'm using the EA app now, not origin. either way, messing around in origin's settings never did anything for me when i was using it, that's exactly why i switched and started using the EA app. the issue is that the EA app is just as painfully slow, if not worse.
Has this issue been resolved? I have 1Gb internet speeds and my update today is struggling to stay over 100 KB/s. I just need to do a 1 GB update. It should take about 40 seconds. It's insanely frustrating. Has EA figured out what causes this yet?
And please don't tell me to restart my computer or clear my cache.
no hasn't changed! Just uninstall the app and stay away from it
