Does anyone else feel the Sims is losing it's way?
I have been playing sims since the first sims game over 20 years ago and lately I have been feeling like the commercialization has gotten to be a bit much, ever since they released "Free-play" Which I appreciate the spirit of but also feel it is a bit unfair to people who paid $40 for the game. I also don't think I should have to see in game ads for an expansion I already paid for or have no interest in.
The other issue, is that when I first started I was sad I could only make one type of sim and struggled to make my sims diverse and I was really happy when they began adding more group representation and LGBTQ representation. They even fixed the bug where all my sims come out looking the same in the randomization of townies! I was over the moon to see Native people represented. Because I primarily identify with my Native heritage. However, I feel some of the culturally inspired packs have since looped back around to excluding certain groups more than others (I'm looking at you business and hobbies) Perhaps Sims 4 needs to stay away from culturally inspired content and opt for more generic worlds in order to avoid making it seem like some cultural representation is valued less than others? I don't think I have a lick of Scandinavian heritage but I know that if they marketed Chestnut Ridge as Native American inspired and had everyone look Irish, I would have been really sad. Also, keep in mind that Scandinavian people are also underrepresented. Not all European groups are the same and are just as diverse as anyone else. I never went on forums for 10 years and now feel like a Karen mentioning all this but I love Sims and find myself tempted to move away from it. I am hoping to add some constructive criticism to help improve things. Am I the only one who feels this way?
