Not able to buy EA Play Pro membership in India post the Govt changed rules

Not able to buy EA Play Pro membership in India post the Govt changed rules. i keep getting the message from my bank

"Dear Customer, Your recurring transaction on Citi Credit/Debit card ending 5XXXXXXXXXXXXXX2 at EA *ELECTRONIC ARTS on 09-NOV-22 for INR 7,668.82 is declined due to RBI directive on processing of recurring transactions with additional authentication. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

The RBI directive is

"All card-issuing banks are required to comply with the new RBI guidelines, failing which cardholders will not be able to use their cards for auto-debit or standing instructions.

Per the latest guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India, banks will have to send card holders a pre-debit notification 24 hours before the due payment. Only then will they be able to process auto-debit transactions. However, if the auto-transaction involves an amount more than Rs. 5000, card holders would have to approve it via an OTP for additional authentication."

Also found out that the below that needs to be done from EA's side...

"We will continue to see failed recurring payments until international merchants sign up for e-mandate services from India. We recommend making a one-time payment every month for subscriptions from international vendors.

Here’s how you can ask your vendor for a payment link:

  1. Send an email to your vendor asking for a one-time payment link. State the problem that you’re facing clearly in the email body
  2. The vendor will send you a one-time payment link. They can also send an invoice. You can pay the requisite amount via credit card
  3. You can repeat these steps every month till international payment gateways comply with the new RBI guidelines"

Can someone from EA help me please?

  • Any updates ? I have been struggling to get through for the same reason mentioned in thread ?

  • @EA_Darko still no resolution are you guys ever going to fix this , i have been trying this for the past 3 months ? is there any timeline for the fix. Only resolution is buy the game and play. Same card works for buying the game and it doesn't for EA PLAY membership. Please do not give suggestion as go to your central bank and ask them to make an excuse for EA because i want to play a game, while all the vendors from around the world are following the guidelines of Central bank of India why not EA. EA should be looking into this matter seriously and fix it rather than suggesting us to go to central bank
  • @EA_Darko  : Any updates on this issue? It's only EA Play Pro subscription that doesn't work like others mentioned. EA game purchases, XBOX gamepass, steampass all such stuff works with the same set of cards. I just joined today to say that EA still needs to fix this issue.

Appreciate if you get EA to resolve it would be great

  • @sateesh_s EA wants us to buy the whole game instead of Subscription, that way they can make more money. But they don't know the Indians well.
I was trying this whole year. Opened cases twice, all they say is try different card or add payment method first then try. XBOX fixed this, EA didn't.
I tried every bank card that is available here in India. If any new bank opens then i try to get that card as well and give it a try. But i wont buy the game. Never. Its too late now.
