Controller Struggles in F1 25 – Pace Gap & Tyre Wear Compared to Wheel
Disclaimer : this feedback issue is made from my esport teammate
Hello everyone,
I’ve been involved in competitive gaming across various consoles from 2008 to 2014.
I returned to amateur competition on F1 22 and gradually improved over time.
On F1 24, I reached what I believe was my best level so far, and — without trying to sound boastful — I was among one of the best French drivers using a controller (just within France, not internationally).
Since the release of F1 25, I’ve continued to approach the game with curiosity and a willingness to learn and experiment on my own. However, I’ve come to a conclusion — one that seems to be shared across various community forums.
There is a significant pace gap between controller and wheel users. The game is enjoyable to drive, but there’s a noticeable input delay when changing direction on the controller, and despite trying multiple setups, I haven’t found a proper solution.
There’s also a major issue in race conditions: tire degradation. Based on my own testing, I’ve observed a 10 to 20% increase in tire wear per stint compared to wheel users at the same pace.
In other words, if I maintain the same lap times and setup as a driver using a wheel, I end up with significantly higher tire wear. The alternative — managing my pace — only results in finishing with less degradation, but much further behind in race time, so it doesn’t resolve the core issue.
This situation is becoming increasingly frustrating, and I truly hope the team can revisit these issues, ideally while preserving the overall driving physics, which are excellent.
Thank you very much in advance for your attention.
Best regards,
(Sorry for my english)
