Re: F1 22 Grip Levels and Traction

Just a thought about losing the rear and spinning when applying power. This has been a problem since years in CM F1 games and forces you to drive differently (short shifting, applying progressive power, …) and I agrée with all that has been said here.

I try something I never did : increasing the throttle linearity to 100 or less and for me this works. I mean I can drive without any TC normally (like you can do in other games). I’m totally happy with it. 2 laps to get used and that’s it (instead of countless hours learning to drive without unrealistic TC).

This is just an idea and I would like to have your feedback on it.

damn, imagine arguing over a point which is proven by rl videos and real f1 drivers. The understeer was always a big issue in the codies games. Hope they will work on that.

@gizt7 the telemetry overlay for brakes is known to be just a on/off indicator. Both because braking is arguably the most important driving input and because it's hard to do it live given how the pedal is responding to pressure, not to distance traveled.

@Artax04 This is not on grip. As the handling dev said here already, grip levels are fine. It is as @SertacKaratepe_ pointed out, you can still break traction in high grip scenarios if you put power down beyond the limit of adhesion

Keyword here is power, torque at the wheels. Again, as the devs said here, traction has been under significant rework for a while now with an update on the pipelines for soon.

Torque and grip are closely related, but completely different. The current issue has been singled out as being on the former, grip is fine.

If you're going to bring crypto mining into the discussion as a factor that practically trivializes paying for hardware and software, mate I'll have a hard time thinking of something even more wacky and out of touch to top that.

=> That setting does magic indeed if one struggles, and I use it both on wheel software or in game if need be.

But the fact that even with that the starts are still as if you are on ice, even with low revs is beyond me.

All gamers with high end pc for free on steam... do you think they payed the pc??
I will never understand gamer that blame mining, when all the miners are just gamers who don't want to pay in the beginning.
You should blame big mining farms, cause that is no sense, but not mining in general.

This encapsulates the gist of it. 

I'm not bashing on the ecological issues of the activity, pal. But on how narrow and short sighted of an analysis one needs to do to propose crypto mining as a quick and easy fix to money problems feasible to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

It's quite literally written down on your own comment. Even if it indeed worked out for you and your friends this time, you cannot extrapolate that and suggest that it should work for anyone else in the present, short or medium term. And that's assuming your pen & paper breakdown was accurate enough to account for all mining costs, which is very often not the case with "enthusiasts".

Something needs to change with the torque of gears 1-4. Watching PSGL at Bahrain most drivers are taking turn 1 and the hairpin in fourth gear. I'm going to guess that even drivers on that level are struggling with wheel spin and loosing control. So they have adapted but it seems kind of dumb to have to resort to that. Especially compared to how real drivers are using their gears in these same corners. 

Since the firmware/ driver update from thrustmaster yesterday i’ve been able to apply the throttle easier without just spinning out. The force feedback is improved aswell & now seems easier to catch as spin.

maybe fanatec etc… need to update drivers aswell to get it working correctly with F1 22.

They need to add some better FFB for wheels so you can feel the car starting to go or break traction right now you cant really feel the car 'going' it just spins without feeling a lot of the time 

@SertacKaratepe_ Now that you do mention it, the braking system is not as realistic as it could be and could definitely be improved

The post I made yesterday wasn't supposed to come off as whiney but on reflection it definitely is; the main reason why I made the post was the second point rather than race starts but I thought I might as well include that. I am happy that torque issues are being worked on, I just wanted to include the second point more like an observation saying that grip levels themselves don't look like they're the issue

Once again I have adapted but still want to give feedback on areas of the game I believe could be improved and have increased realism and by no means do I strive for less competitive and less skilful racing, and I too hope that future updates will not result in massive changes to the difficulty of acceleration, just small tweaks 

@SertacKaratepe_ to be fair, it's been a long time since F1 cars have their underfloor as the main source of downforce. All through the turbo hybrid era for sure. You can find CFD data showing that, and that was a huge reason for the reason for the intricate bargeboards - locking the air underneath the car through vortexes.

It's not that the game was simulating a different era. It's just that the simulation was off back then, significantly

By the way, the same applies to F1 22. In the Alex Gilon interview, David Greco went on about the changes they were working on the handling and tyre model that would take the realism a step further and make for a different game, regardless of the regulation changes.

But yes, I instantly dismiss most of the criticism levied against F1 22 when it seems they're using to Norris/Russell's comments on F1 2019 as their ground. Those are no longer applicable. There can still be issues, mind you, but those remarks are no longer relevant.

And what's the value of this video? WIP version, no discussion about the traction or what TC he was using. If you want to pick something, he really complements the handling in the end.

Otherwise have to say, he predicted win for Sainz in Silverstone quite nicely 😃
