Cannot pause game in Rivals

While playing rivals my opponent had a pause queued and after the ball was out of play and game resumed it appeared his players weren't being controlled as I was able to just dribble past players and his player icon didn't move I thought they were just controller down pouting but after 4-0 and halftime I realized I couldn't pause or enter menus I had to watch all of halftime 2x before I had to leave the game I don't know why this occurred but it is my first game on ps5
